On April 21, 2024, Sea Bright Police were in the parking lot of Donovan's Reef when Patrolwoman Susino observed a vehicle back into a parked vehicle. She immediately ordered the driver to park the car and step out of the vehicle. The 28-year-old woman claimed a language barrier that prevented her from understanding how to perform standardized field sobriety tests. She was eventually arrested for DUI and was transported to the Sea Bright police station. She was given a document in Portuguese that explained her rights, including the consequences of refusing to submit to a breath test. She elected not to submit to a breath test and was charged with Driving While Under the Influence of Liquor, Refusal to Submit to Chemical Testing, and Reckless Driving. Her first court appearance is scheduled for June 2024. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
