A silver 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee had crashed into a pole on N Warwick Road near Maryland Avenue. The officers arrived at the scene around 12:52 AM. Patrolman Hackney saw that the Jeep had major damage to the front and noticed that the airbags had deployed. He approached the driver, 18-year-old Maegen, who was honest about driving the vehicle. Inside the Jeep, she had a passenger, 18-year-old Michaela. Maegen explained to Patrolman Hackney that she was looking at Michaela’s phone when her boyfriend called. This distraction led her to crash into a pole while driving north on N Warwick Road. As he talked to her, the officer noticed the smell of alcohol and other signs that suggested impairment. Based on this, he asked Maegen to perform some field sobriety tests. Patrolman Hackney began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. He noticed that Maegen's eyes did not move smoothly and showed clear signs of nystagmus when turned to the side. Next, he conducted the Walk and Turn test. Maegen struggled to walk heel-to-toe on each step. Finally, during the One Leg Stand test, she lost her balance several times as she put her foot down. After the car accident, officers noticed the smell of alcohol on Maegen's breath. She struggled to complete the sobriety tests, leading to her arrest for drunk driving. To spare her from embarrassment in front of her friend, Patrolman Hackney chose not to use handcuffs. She was taken to the Magnolia Police Department for more processing. Meanwhile, other officers remained with her vehicle until it could be towed for a required 12-hour hold due to John’s Law. At the Magnolia Police Department, Patrolman Hackney explained the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators. She agreed to provide breath samples. The results from the Alcotest showed her blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was 0.19%. This was over twice the legal limit of 0.08% for drivers aged 21 and older, and 19 times the limit of 0.01% for drivers under 21. After her processing, Maegen was released to her friend Michaela. Michaela signed a form for Maegen, allowing her temporary freedom before the court date at Magnolia Municipal Court on December 5, 2023. Patrolman Hackney then issued several summonses to Maegen. These included charges for operating under the influence, underage drinking, reckless driving, careless driving, and not following marked lanes. On March 12, 2024, court records show that Maegen was convicted of driving under the influence. As a result, she had to use an ignition interlock device for three months. She also needed to attend a 12-hour program for intoxicated drivers and pay $640 in fines. Four additional citations against her were dropped due to a plea deal. Later, on April 5, 2024, she received another ticket for using a hand-held phone while driving in Lawnside, New Jersey. 1:05 Wow 2:00 i’m living for this lady 10:37 he says I know her parents. 30:10 everything were calm until he talk 44:48 bonus footage 51:55 WHY DIDNT YALL 5 POLICE GO AFTER THOSE 2 SPEEDING CARS???
