On March 4th, 2023, at approximately 4:21 a.m., FHP Trooper Lopez was on patrol when he noticed a vehicle that was swerving and unable to maintain its proper lane at various speeds, indicating that the driver might be under the influence. Despite Trooper Lopez's attempts to pull the vehicle over, it continued driving, prompting him to initiate a pursuit southbound on Interstate 95. Meanwhile, FHP Trooper Acosta was traveling north on I-95 near mile marker 154 when he received a call from the Lake Worth Communication Center reporting a reckless driver. Trooper Acosta observed the vehicle speeding southbound, passing other vehicles without regard for the safety of others. In response, Trooper Acosta made a U-turn at the 156-mile marker exit County Road 512 to assist Trooper Lopez in the pursuit. As they continued westward on State Road 60, Trooper Lopez and Trooper Acosta made several attempts to box in the reckless driver, who responded with aggressive maneuvers to evade the troopers' efforts to stop him.
