As he got closer to the 2018 Nissan Rogue, he saw that the airbag had deployed and the passenger's side tire and rim were badly damaged from hitting nearby rocks. Officers Nicolas Bagan and Samuel Forre, along with Sergeant Gregory Penn, arrived soon after to help. The driver, 31-year-old Yanell Barrientos, explained that she struggled to make the right turn from Mountain Avenue to Raymond Street. She also confessed to Officer Went that she had three drinks at a restaurant earlier that evening before trying to drive home. The Westfield Fire Department arrived to assess Yanell, who chose not to receive medical help. Officer Went, suspecting she was impaired, asked her to do field sobriety tests. Sergeant Penn and Officer Bagan helped with these exercises. Yanell's first task was to recite the alphabet from D to W, but she mistakenly started from C and went to Z. The second assessment was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. Officer Went and Officer Fourre conducted this test twice. They observed that Yanell had trouble with smooth eye movement, showed distinct and sustained eye shaking when looking to the side, and began to show shaking before her eyes reached 45 degrees in both directions. The third assessment involved the Walk and Turn test. Yanell failed to walk heel-to-toe, kept her arms out to the side, and did not follow the yellow lines correctly. Finally, during the One Leg Stand test, Yanell had difficulty keeping her foot raised properly, swayed, and put her foot down several times. Officer Went decided to arrest Yanell for driving under the influence. This decision was based on her disabled car, her unclear statements, and her struggle with the field sobriety tests. After a brief struggle, Sergeant Penn managed to put handcuffs on her. Officer Went then took Yanell to the patrol car. Officer Fourre stayed at the scene until the vehicle could be towed for a mandatory 12-hour hold, as required by John’s Law. Officer Went took Yanell to the Westfield Police Headquarters. There, Lieutenant Nicole Stivale conducted a search. Officer Bagan then read the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators to Yanell, who agreed to give breath samples. The Alcotest showed her blood alcohol concentration was 0.14%, which is above the legal limit of 0.08%. While being processed, she confessed to having drinks at the Stage House Tavern in Mountainside that evening. After completing the process, she was handed over to a sober person who signed the Potential Liability Warning form for her. Officer Went then issued Yanell three summonses: Operating under the influence, reckless driving, and careless driving. On July 28, 2022, court records show that Yanell was convicted of operating under the influence. She faced a fine of $790 and had her license taken away for three months. To meet the requirements, she completed 12 hours at a resource center for intoxicated drivers. As part of her plea deal, two other citations were dropped. 1:55 That’s because you were drunk deer 2:07 At least she was honest but she needs to stop talking 3:10 The look on the homeowner’s face 8:06 Your car doesn't always get totaled from hitting a pole 14:15 the cop that keeps walking away from her 15:44 Your car doesn't always get totaled from hitting a pole 15:56 thats so high omg 17:19 left in front of right 20:28 right in front of the left 21:30 it was a catwalk 23:10 i wish i could see her feet during the walk 26:00 I’ve been in a car accident 26:06 like we haven’t seen her for the pass 26 minutes. 26:15 She just said she’d never been in an accident tho before 29:24 How can someone bring themselves to act like this. 30:03 You know, I almost bought it 30:50 is so well-handled by all the cops involved 31:35 They don't need to know... 35:36 Kinda makes me wonder what her fiancé thinks or does 36:36 you don't have to tell them If you enjoyed this BodyCamBust video .
