On February 28, 2021, Brittany Gosney walked into the Middletown Division of Police in Ohio and reported her six-year-old son, James Hutchinson, missing. Investigators quickly noticed problems with her timeline, and what began as a missing-child report soon became a homicide investigation. During multiple interviews, detectives challenged Brittany’s changing account, compared her statements with other evidence, and steadily narrowed the gaps in her story. As the questioning intensified, she eventually admitted that James had died days earlier and that she and her boyfriend, James Hamilton, later disposed of his body in the Ohio River. This video presents the police interrogation of Brittany Gosney and examines how detectives used contradictions, strategic questioning, evidence comparison, and investigative pressure to uncover what happened. James Robert Hutchinson was six years old and attended Rosa Parks Elementary School in Middletown. Despite extensive searches involving multiple law-enforcement agencies, his body was never recovered. Brittany Gosney later pleaded guilty to murder and two counts of child endangering and was sentenced to life in prison with parole eligibility after 21 years. James Hamilton pleaded guilty to kidnapping, child endangering, and gross abuse of a corpse and received a prison sentence of 15 to 19 years. Evidence Lab Interrogation examines real police interviews, criminal investigations, detective strategy, suspect statements, and the evidence that moves a case from suspicion to prosecution. Our focus is on understanding the investigative process while presenting each case with factual context and respect for the people affected. In memory of James Robert Hutchinson.
