It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: On the morning of March 1, 2025, around 7:55, Officer Andrew Slota from Lacey Township Police pulled up at the Wawa on 800 Lacey Road. He came to help Officer Kevin Tranz with a drunk driving probe into Amariah Keith. Slota aided in the roadside sobriety checks. Once Amariah was cuffed for DUI, her partner Marissa Valdez showed up. She looked upset about the arrest. The cops explained that Amariah would get booked at the station. They said Marissa could pick her up after release. The officers let Marissa drive off. She soon parked in the lot at the nearby police station. Slota stayed back at the Wawa with Sergeant Michael Verwey. They waited for a tow truck. Minutes passed. Then Marissa walked over from the station lot. She approached the officers again. As Sergeant Verwey chatted with her, he smelled booze on her breath. He figured she might be tipsy too. So Slota ran sobriety tests on Marissa. First came the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus check. Slota spotted jerky eye movements. There was no smooth tracking. Nystagmus held steady at full tilt. It kicked in before 45 degrees. Next was the Walk and Turn. Marissa missed heel-to-toe steps. She waved her arms to stay steady. Last, the One Leg Stand. She didn't lift her foot right. It dropped too soon. The booze smell, her own words about drinking before, and the failed tests led to her arrest for DUI. They held her car for 12 hours under John's Law. Slota drove her to the station for booking. There, they read her the standard rights for drivers. She agreed to blow into the breathalyzer. The Alcotest showed 0.285% blood alcohol—over three times the 0.08% limit. Once done, her mom signed the form and took her home. Marissa got tickets for operating under the influence and reckless driving. Later, cops nabbed her for another DUI in Toms River on March 24, 2025.
