The cars involved were a 2009 Toyota Camry, a 2006 Audi, and a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta. Officer Gant approached the Audi's driver, while Officer Marchetti spoke to the Volkswagen driver. The Audi driver reported pain from the crash, but after being assessed by first responders, she chose not to go to the hospital. Sergeant Boturla approached the driver of the Toyota Camry, who identified herself as Julia. As he talked to her, he noticed a smell of alcohol and signs that she might be impaired. Officer Gant later spoke with Julia, and she explained that she had just left her aunt’s house in Rumson and was heading to Lavallette. When asked if she had been drinking earlier, Julia confirmed she had three beers around 6:00 PM. Because they suspected she was impaired, Julia was asked to perform some field sobriety tests. Officer Gant began the assessment by asking Julia to recite the alphabet from A to Z. She missed the letter G and hesitated several times during the exercise. Next, they moved to the One Leg Stand test. Julia struggled to lift her foot correctly and stopped counting in the middle. The third test was the Walk and Turn test, where she did not place her heel to toe on each step and made an improper turn. Finally, Sergeant Boturla conducted the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. He informed Officer Gant that he observed all six signs of impairment. After the car accident, Julia admitted to drinking alcohol and struggled with the field sobriety tests, leading to her arrest. Once arrested, her car was towed and held for 12 hours, following John’s Law. Officer Gant took Julia to the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department for processing. At the station, she was informed of her rights as a motor vehicle operator but chose not to provide breath samples. After processing Julia, they put her in a cell until someone would take responsibility for her. She tried to reach out to several friends but had no luck. Eventually, she was released to her aunt. Her aunt signed a form that noted the potential liability for Julia. Officer Gant gave Julia several citations: operating under the influence, refusing to take a breath test, reckless driving, careless driving, and not having her driver registration with her. Julia was arrested for DWI in Lakewood, New Jersey, on June 28, 2020. Her driving history includes many traffic violations in New Jersey before this arrest. After the DWI incident, she received several tickets for driving with a suspended license in places like Brick Township, Lavallette, Toms River, and Brielle. These events paint a picture of ongoing troubles with the law related to her driving. 0:33 get your money momma 2:37 It's slimy. Now I can't get it off my hands.
