On April 15, 2026, loss prevention personnel at a retail store were already monitoring a shopper they suspected of skip-scanning merchandise based on prior encounters and observations. According to the arrest report, employees watched the shopper move throughout the store selecting merchandise before eventually making her way to the self-checkout area with a cart full of items. Investigators later alleged that only certain items were scanned while other merchandise was not properly entered into the transaction. Rather than immediately intervening, loss prevention personnel continued watching the transaction to determine whether all merchandise in the cart would be paid for. After making a payment, the shopper pushed the cart past all points of sale and exited the store. Store employees later determined that approximately $292.34 worth of merchandise had allegedly not been paid for. Police officers were already waiting outside when the shopper exited the store. According to the report, the shopper denied taking any items and claimed that both the merchandise and the store belonged to her. Officers also alleged that she attempted to pull away while being detained. The shopper was arrested and booked into the county jail on charges of felony retail theft involving two or more prior theft convictions and resisting an officer without violence. Court records indicate she remained in custody for 20 days following her booking. On May 5, 2026, she was released on her own recognizance under specific conditions.
