On April 15th, 2026, police responded to a local Walmart in reference to a theft in progress. Upon arrival, officers went straight to the loss prevention office, where store security filled them in on what was happening. They were actively tracking a shopper on their surveillance system. Security footage first shows the woman in the meat department picking out items and tossing them into her cart. From there, the camera cuts over to the grocery aisles, where she continues her shopping spree and picks out multiple items. She ends up collecting a pretty massive haul before finally heading over to the self-checkout lanes. According to the arrest affidavit, store security noticed she was skip scanning her merchandise. While watching the video feed in real-time alongside loss prevention, the responding officer observed her grab the wand scanner several times and noticed she was only scanning the center of each item with clearly no intention of actually registering the barcodes. >> [music] >> At a couple of points during the transaction, the register begins to beep, but instead of letting the machine lock up, loss prevention actually instructs a store employee to go over, clear the screen prompt, and intentionally let her keep going so she could complete the theft. As soon as the employee walks away, she finishes paying for the few things she did scan and gets ready to head out. Instead of stopping her right there, asset protection decides to wait to see if she'll bypass the cashiers. >> [music] >> Sure enough, she walks right past all points of sale without paying for the rest of her cart. The loss prevention officer confronted her at the exit, where the woman denied taking anything, but she was unaware police were waiting for her. >> She went here. >> No, you didn't. >> Ma'am, Boynton Beach Police Department. >> I paid for everything. >> No, you didn't. >> No, you didn't. >> Yes, I did. >> No, you didn't. You just scratched my arm. >> She was transported to the county jail and booked on charges of felony retail theft with two or more prior convictions, as well as resisting an officer without violence. The next morning, she appeared before a judge for her first appearance hearing and a public defender was appointed to represent her. The judge found probable cause for her arrest and initially set her bond at $1,000 for the felony theft alongside an ROR release for the resisting charge. She was also issued a strict order to have absolutely no contact with Walmart. But from there, her legal situation quickly grew much more complex. A few weeks later, at a motion hearing on May 5th, the court took a dramatic turn. The judge altered her release conditions, granting her an ROR bond on the theft charge, but requiring her to undergo mandatory mental health evaluations and attend competency restoration classes. Court records show she was ordered to comply with medical treatment and class schedules tying directly into multiple other open cases. By May 7th, the state prosecutor finalized the formal charges. The state officially filed information to press forward with the charge of felony theft. However, the prosecutor dropped the second charge entirely, electing to take no action on the resisting an officer count. Following a mental health evaluation filed with the court in late May, she failed to appear at her scheduled arraignment and status check on May 29th. As it stands, her case has been officially pushed out to October 2026, where she is currently scheduled for her next status check. >> [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> New horizons, [music] new horizons keep on calling me.
