It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: At 12:01 AM on September 21, 2024, Officer Sean Bryant saw a Jeep speeding. It was on Warwick Road near Preston Avenue. The Jeep was also tailgating. The driver was following her dad home. The officer pursued the car. He stopped it at Warwick Road and Elenor Avenue in Stratford. The driver pulled over, and the car she followed stopped too. Officer Bryant spoke with the driver, Leila, age 20. Leila said she was coming from a wedding and going home. The officer smelled alcohol on her breath as they spoke. He suspected she was drunk. He asked Leila to step out and do tests. The first test was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. Leila did not cooperate. The officer could not finish the test. The next test was the Walk and Turn. Leila failed. She did not touch heel-to-toe. She took the wrong number of steps. Her turn was bad. The last test was the One Leg Stand. Leila failed again. She did not raise her foot right. She put her foot down too soon. Officer Bryant asked Leila how much she drank. She said she had two drinks earlier. He arrested her for driving under the influence. He based this on her driving, the alcohol smell, and her failed tests. The police impounded her car for 12 hours under John’s Law. They took Leila to the Stratford Police Department. First, Officer Bryant read her the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators. Then, Leila agreed to a breath test. The test showed a BAC of 0.15%. That's almost double the legal limit of 0.08%. It was also 15 times the limit of 0.01% for drivers under 21. After processing, Officer Bryant drove Leila home. He released her to her mother. Her mother signed a Potential Liability Warning form.
