On August 8, 2025, officers were dispatched to a private residence after the homeowner reported that a woman given a house key to return had instead used it to enter the home and live there while the owner was out of town. The owner watched from another state on a doorbell camera. At the door, an officer told the woman she was here illegally and that handing over the key would end the encounter, while refusing would send her to jail. Minutes later she was seated in a running vehicle, refusing repeated orders to put the car in park, and officers removed her by force. The key was recovered afterward, from a chair by the door. Was this a criminal trespass or a civil property dispute the officers had no authority to settle at the door? At what moment did an investigative detention become an arrest, and was that arrest supported by probable cause? If an officer was struck by the vehicle, why does the record show three counts of resisting an officer without violence and no battery charge at all? Charged: three counts of resisting an officer without violence. Maximum stacked exposure: three years in jail and $3,000 in fines. Case status unknown at time of analysis. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
