Incident: On October 5, 2025, a Sterling Heights Police officer working a Walmart detail was advised by loss prevention officers of a retail fraud in progress involving three males. As officers attempted to intercept the suspects leaving the store, a foot pursuit began. During the confrontation, one suspect allegedly attempted to stab an officer with a screwdriver before eventually being taken into custody. One officer suffered a minor injury during the altercation. Investigators determined the suspects had stolen approximately $236 worth of hygiene products and laundry detergent. The other two suspects fled in a getaway vehicle and were pursued by Warren and Eastpointe Police. Although they escaped at the time, both were eventually identified and arrested. The primary suspect, identified as Joshua Mills, was transported to the Macomb County Jail after receiving a medical evaluation. He was initially charged with Assault with Intent to Murder, Resisting and Obstructing Police, and Second-Degree Retail Fraud and was given a $500,000 bond. Investigators also determined that Mills had allegedly assaulted his wife in Eastpointe earlier that same day, resulting in an additional charge of Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder. Mills ultimately pleaded no contest to two counts of Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder and two counts of Resisting and Obstructing Police. He received concurrent sentences of 5 to 20 years for each assault conviction and 2 to 4 years for each resisting and obstructing conviction. According to Michigan Department of Corrections records, his earliest release date is April 4, 2031. Disclaimer: This content contains real police interactions and may be disturbing to some viewers.
