On January 17, 2025, Las Cruces Police Officer Dollar observed the driver of a Nissan Frontier speeding and driving erratically. Officer Dollar initiated a traffic stop on the truck, which was being driven by a 23-year-old woman. The woman denied driving the way Officer Dollar explained and believed he had mistaken her truck for another one. The police report indicates that Officer Dollar could smell alcohol coming from the vehicle. As a result, the woman was asked to step out of the truck in order to perform standardized field sobriety tests (FSTs). Once out of her vehicle, she refused numerous requests to put her hands down. She initially refused FSTs, but once the handcuffs came out, she decided she would submit to them. She lost her balance during the one leg stand test and almost fell completely to the ground. She was ultimately arrested for Driving While Under the Influence (DWI) and she was transported to the Las Cruces police station. She agreed to submit to an evidential breath test and the result was 0.22% and 0.20% BAC. This elevated her charge to Aggravated DWI. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
