Watch this police interrogation with intense raw interrogation from the interrogation room as police conduct a full interrogation of a suspect. This raw interrogation footage captures every moment of the suspect interview, complete with deception detection techniques, and criminal psychology in true JCS style interrogation. The Background Bryanna Barozzini (18 at the time of the incident, later 20) and Halia Culbertson (17) were former best friends from the Columbus, Ohio area (Barozzini of Westerville; Culbertson of Sunbury) who had a falling out and ongoing feud. Motives centered on the prior friendship breakdown, mutual animosity, and threats exchanged in the feud. Prosecutors described “bad blood” and “unjustifiable rage”; the defense maintained Barozzini acted out of fear. Barozzini later admitted carrying a knife (from work) for protection and had sent prior text messages referencing slicing Culbertson’s throat or cutting her if she came near again or to her family’s home. The Crime On the night of March 26, 2023, around 11:48 p.m., the two encountered each other inside 161 Carryout (a smoke shop/convenience store) near Emporium Square/Cleveland Avenue in the Northland area of northeast Columbus, Ohio. Culbertson initiated confrontation inside, challenging Barozzini to a fight; staff asked Culbertson to leave. Culbertson waited outside, then confronted Barozzini upon her exit, threatening, pushing, and slapping her in the face. Surveillance and bystander video showed Barozzini stepping/backing away (reported as at least 30 steps in defense filings) before pulling a knife and swinging it once, striking Culbertson in the neck/clavicle/chest area. Culbertson continued engaging briefly afterward and only later noticed blood. Culbertson was taken to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital and died early on March 27, 2023, from the single stab wound. Barozzini left the scene. The Investigation Witnesses identified Barozzini. Police located her at her Westerville home. She admitted swinging the knife during the fight but claimed self-defense and limited memory of the strike. Key physical evidence included the knife (recovered from a crawl space at her home) and clothing (found in a washing machine). Bodycam footage captured aspects of her interaction with officers. Digital evidence included the prior text messages about potential violence toward Culbertson, which a judge indicated would have been admissible and could undercut a pure self-defense claim. Video evidence captured the confrontation sequence, including Culbertson’s initiation and slap followed by the stabbing. Prosecutors acknowledged Culbertson as the initial antagonizer/aggressor in the parking-lot encounter but viewed the knife use as a disproportionate response to a slap. Conviction and Sentencing Barozzini was initially charged with murder (and related counts). On the eve of trial in June 2024 (as jury selection approached), she pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of involuntary manslaughter after prosecutors dropped the murder counts under a plea agreement. On July 11, 2024, Franklin County Judge Mark Serrott sentenced her to the maximum three years in prison available under the plea (plus related terms such as a potential fine). Early-release consideration was noted as possible later. Family members of Culbertson expressed strong dissatisfaction with the reduced charge and sentence length during impact statements.
