We need to have a I need you Get that guy in the red hoodie. He saw it. And this guy I know. Okay. All right. Just sit down. >> We have to We have to tell them what happened. >> Oh, that's fine. I need to I need to separate you guys, okay? Just for integrity of the story, okay? Okay. All right. All right, where she live? >> Sunbury, Ohio. I don't know her exact address. >> Okay. All right, what happened? >> Bree Beresini stabbed her. They were getting into a fight. I was sitting in the Jeep cuz I cannot be around Bree Beresini because her baby dad her brother's my baby dad and hurt me and her have issues. I don't >> Do you know how to spell Barzzini? >> B A R O Z Z I N I. They got into a fight and I Halia walked to the front door of the Jeep. I saw she had a gash on her. She got in the car and she goes I'm getting nauseous. I hopped out the car. I called 911 because I didn't see the [ __ ] fight. I was sitting in the Jeep looking away cuz I'm not I can't be I Bree I can't be part of that family. >> see the actual fight? >> No, but I know who Bree Barzzini is. I >> I didn't see her get stabbed at all. >> Okay. >> It just looked like they were throwing punches. >> Okay. >> Holy [ __ ] >> Relax. Yeah, I got you. >> Y'all better not punk me for crying, bro. >> Dude, ain't nobody punking you, man. This is This >> Oh my god, I'm so sorry. Y'all better get her hurt. >> It's all right. I just need you relax. It's okay. >> Oh my god, I just hold my [ __ ] sister. She was bleeding out there. I didn't even know she was bleeding out till [ __ ] Kenzie came up to me. >> Bree and Bree and Halia were supposed to be fighting. Well, they were in the Columbus >> like a planned thing or what? >> No, it was random as [ __ ] She came in while we came in. Like it was random as [ __ ] She just not shop. >> Yeah, in the smoke shop right there. >> Okay. >> She just happened to come in and they started going at it in the [ __ ] store and Bree called Halia cokehead. >> Okay. >> Halia is a sober. Like she's a she's a recovering addict. So she took that into great offense, you know, I don't know if you've met any recovering addicts, but like me personally, I'm one. >> Who was the addict? I'm sorry. >> Halia. Halia was an addict. So and she called she called Halia out on being >> a cokehead. >> Yeah, so like Halia got mad and Halia was waiting outside and they were supposed to just fight. It was It was to just be a fight. Like I like I was there. I was supposed to be like in between it. I didn't even see a knife get pulled. >> Okay. >> Like, I'm not sure if it was a knife or if she had a ring on her finger and just got her. Like, you know what I'm saying? Like >> Cuz a knife got pulled out and it was on the ground and then I saw it. >> What kind of knife was it? >> It looked like a switchblade, like a butterfly knife type >> Okay. >> type of knife. But, I'm not entirely sure. >> Okay. >> Like, if I'm going to be honest with you. But, she didn't have time to pull it out cuz Halia, like, I'm not going to lie, that's my little sister. >> Right. >> But, she smacked the [ __ ] out of her first. Like, you could see it on the video. >> Right. >> Halia smacked her. All you saw from that was hands on hands. There was no like digging in the pockets and pulling out and going like, you know what I'm saying? There was none of that. Cuz if I would have seen that, I would have already been in there and >> Right. >> y'all would have been called sooner. We didn't know she was bleeding out till she got it back. She like She crunched Bree in the [ __ ] face. Bree was on the ground and she walked away. Halia walked away, got in the Jeep ready to drive. >> Right. >> And she was sitting there and Kenzie comes over to me and goes, "She's spitting blood out of her [ __ ] chest." And I come over and I just see like right in this area on the right or left side of left side of her chest >> Uh-huh. >> shooting blood. My first reaction is take my [ __ ] shirt off, put it on top, put pressure on it. I've had [ __ ] I've had my brothers die in my arms because they got shot and I didn't put pressure on pressure on it. You know what I'm saying? Like, I didn't put pressure fast enough. So, like >> That's rough. That's rough, brother. Did the switchblade look like it had blood on it? >> No. And like, I I honestly feel like if she got stabbed like with a a ring or something. Like >> You think she got stabbed with a ring? >> Like, honestly, like I feel like it was one of those like probably like self-defensive rings where it was like you shove it in my [ __ ] shoulder and it pops a hole. Like, that's what I feel like. I didn't see the blade come out. Like I was standing like I'm clear as day in the video standing right there holding it. Like >> what he said. >> Am I allowed to come out? >> Yeah, you're staying right there. >> Hey, get off my sister, bro. >> All right, hold on. >> Yeah, go ahead. >> Halia is the one in the orange. >> I'm going to put my phone down, bro. Hey, get off my sister, bro. Get off. Get off my sister. Hey, if you touch my sister girl, I'm going to have to put my phone down, bro. Halia, crunch your ass to get it over with, bro. Crunch your ass to get it over with, Halia. Yeah, crunch your ass, Halia. Crunch your ass, Halia. Crunch your ass, Halia. Crunch your ass, Halia. [ __ ] her up. >> What's up, [ __ ] >> You better get your girl before she gets [ __ ] up even more. So I don't [laughter] have a Okay, so I saved I saved it down there. You could tell. All right, the button down there saved it. I might >> What's up? What kind of car was the suspect in? Yeah, if you >> Oh, yes, please. >> If you could, that'd be fantastic. It's in airplane mode. >> Do you have anything sharp on you? Anything I need to know about? >> Undetected probably. This is Detective Fallon. Um I know you've already told this to everybody, but uh I just need to get just a little bit of background information. Um we'll kind of go from there. We just kind of want to talk about what what all happened tonight. But, first Billy So, many of you were involved in an incident earlier tonight up there Columbus Square. And then you went home. And police officers came and basically put you in a car, drove you back here. So, we want to be able to talk to you about that, but we also want to we have to be able to do that because they put you in a car and kind of brought you here and kind of this facility in a police headquarters, you can't just walk out. >> Right. >> Um so, we have to read you your constitutional rights. Um and then make sure you understand those before we can ask any questions or anything like that. Um have you ever had your rights read to you before? >> Mhm. >> Okay. It's kind of like TV, but not really like TV. Um I just want to show you these two forms. I've written your name and just kind of the Oh my god. All right. So, just kind of I guess start from just where you were at earlier tonight, who you were with, um [clears throat] and then what you were doing, sort of stuff. >> Okay. Um well, me and my friend Ead left my house. I would say around like 8:45 and we were hanging out all night. >> He picked you up? >> And we went to the Carriage the at the Square >> Mhm. So, they're on 161? >> to get drinks and stuff. >> Why did you guys choose that one? That's not really close to Westerville. >> We always go there. That's just the spot we've gone for years. And we walk in and I'm grabbing my drinks and stuff and I hear two girls' voices, the ones that don't like me. And I ignore it. I'm on the phone with my brother. I have my brother on the phone and Eiad is beside me. We grab our drinks and walk up to check out and they see me and they just just start running their mouth and >> Who were the girls? >> is McKenzie Adrian, Halia Culbertson, and I don't know who the dude was. >> Okay. >> But he was definitely the loudest. But they just kept instigating trying to get me to fight them and I was like, "You're not worth it. Yeah, you're not worth it. I'm done with my doing it." And even the guy working had told them to get out. And they said they were going to wait for me outside. >> What is this all stemming from? What's the animosity? >> Uh Halia used to be a really good friend of mine. >> Uh-huh. >> And then I found out a lot that like she's just a really bad person. So, I stopped being friends with her and my friend Eiad stopped talking to her. And then after that, she pretty much just went crazy like saying she was going to kill us and slash his tires and do all these things and like she does to most people. There's a few people out there that she's done that to. >> Slash the tires and that? >> Uh I don't know specifically if she has actually slashed someone's tires, but she threatens a lot of people to kill them and So, um the guy working at the smoke shop we were checking out, he checked us out and then he was like, "Wait, I'm going to make sure they leave." So, he walks out and he looks he it looks like he's just standing there. So, I think he told them to leave and then when walk out, they were by a Jeep. I think it was a silver Jeep. >> Mhm. >> And they're screaming at me. And then the dude tells Hollister run up on me. And she's walking up and I keep telling her I'm not fighting you back up. Said you're not worth it. Keep telling her to back up. And I get my knife out in my hand. And I'm holding it and I said, "Back up." And she attacks me. She first slapped me. She was pushing me. Well, before that, yeah, I was trying to like push her away from me, but the other guy said was stealing it and not to touch her or else he was going to do something to him. And I just kept backing up and then she just attacked me and I don't know what exactly had happened, but I went like this. And then she dragged me by my hair on the ground. And like there was just blood in my eyes. I couldn't see anything. But I didn't I don't think I hit her or anything. Cuz I was on the ground getting blood in my eyes. I had no idea what was going on. I was just in shock at that point. >> Now, now are you hurt at all? >> Mhm. No, I got a little cut right here. I think that's from her pulling my hair. >> But you >> like my head and everything. I don't feel anything. That's mostly where she was hitting was right in the back of my head. >> You knocked your head. So, do you normally carry a knife? >> Uh sometimes. When I'm in areas I don't trust I do. >> Um how often do you carry a knife? >> Um I usually bring it every day to work. So, 5 days a week I have it at work with me. I use it at work. It's called uh Midwest Steel Supply. So, when I'm opening boxes, that's I use that. >> That's what you use. And then when you go out to different places, you carry it with you. Have you ever pulled it on anyone? >> No. >> This was the first time you pulled it. Uh Did the lady have any Did she have a knife? >> I don't think so. >> Did you see one or did you see one? >> Did she have or indicate that she had a a weapon or a knife or anything like that? >> No. >> What about they >> at me, all of them, so I couldn't really She just kept saying that what she was going to do to me. That's all I remember. >> She just said that she was going to fight you, beat you up. >> Mhm. She threatened to Well, obviously, she threatened to kill me and me. >> Mhm. What did she say tonight? Or earlier? When you guys were out? What was she saying to you? >> Oh, um she kept saying that pretty much I was a [ __ ] because I wouldn't fight her. And I just kept saying it's not worth it, you're not worth it because who she was with she's my brother's baby mama, if that makes sense. >> Yeah. >> She's already taken my niece from me once and I'm not allowed to see her. So, I really didn't want any issues because she already took my niece away and I wasn't trying to fight. But she kept saying that she was going to hurt me. >> Do you think it had anything to do with something with Kenzie? >> I don't know. >> What do you think it was just like a lady? >> agitated. I don't know. She She was really amped up. And I have no idea why. With me even saying I'm not fighting you, I'm not fighting you. She was just amped up and they were instigating. >> So then the word Before any blows, like any hitting or anything like that, you you pull the knife out, and hold it to your side, right? >> Yeah, I was backing up away from >> Was it open or shut? >> Open. >> Okay. Is this a knife you have to We haven't seen the knife. Is it a knife you Has a sheath or is it like a pocket knife or >> It's like a pocket knife. >> It's like folds? >> Mhm. >> Okay, so then once you pull it out, you open it up immediately? >> Uh no, it wasn't immediate. >> Okay. >> But I had it there, and then when she kept getting closer, that's when I opened it. >> Okay. Do you remember swinging the knife at her? >> Really. >> You got >> It all happened like really fast. >> Yeah. Um Now, did you Do you remember Did you swing the knife at her as as you were backing up or going forward? >> I think I was backing up because I was trying to put I think I was putting space in between us by doing that. >> It all happened pretty quick. >> Yes. >> Did you know they were going to be at the smoke shop? >> No idea. >> Just a random >> even know the cars or anything. It was just very random. >> Ever seen them there, Leo or Kenzi or >> No. >> at the smoke shop? >> The last time I saw Leo at the smoke shop, I was with her, and that was probably four or five months ago. Maybe or whatever October was. I think that's when we stopped being friends was in October or September. And then I've never seen Kenzie there before. I heard she went there but I never saw her. >> So this is kind of like a hangout type of place? >> No, I don't usually hang out there. I don't know. They were there for a while. I think because they were just standing there talking when we walked in. Yeah, we just got our drinks and cuz we were about to head back to my house. >> And then afterwards, what what all happened um with you and Ian? >> I called my mom on the way home. Oh, my dad was on the phone, so he was ready in his truck. He was going to head to me because he was worried. And I told him just to head home, so I was going to head home. I called my mom, told her what happened. I got home and explained it better to them and I showered and then I just was in my room. >> What um what did you do with the clothes and the knife? >> Um the clothes, I set them on the ground. I think my brother put them downstairs in the laundry room. And the knife I don't remember who I handed it to. I just wanted it all the way from me, so >> You don't know what happened to the knife then? >> Yeah, I don't remember where they put it or anything. No. >> But you took it into the house? So >> during the the the fight when she was hitting you, what what happened with the knife during that time? >> Uh it had dropped on the ground. >> Okay. >> It wasn't no longer in my hand. >> Okay. And then did you pick the knife up? After they went out to the car or something? >> let go of me, yeah. Let go of me, yeah. I would think I left the stuff on the ground. >> What was the stuff from the store? >> Mhm. >> Did you know she had been cut at that point? >> Um I didn't know if it was me or her cuz they were yelling saying that they were laughing saying that she may be bleeding, so I was like maybe there's a cut on me. But then I was looking all over myself. When we got in the car, I was like it I don't think it's me. Cuz she was just kept hitting. I couldn't see anything cuz my hair was just everywhere. >> Hair was in your face and all that. But then you realized that if it wasn't you, it had to be her. >> Mhm. >> Once you're in the car. >> Yeah, cuz as soon as we got in the car, we left. We just drove off. >> from that area, yeah. >> We weren't in the apartment anymore. >> Did you call the police at all? >> No, I didn't know what to do. I thought police would come to my house. Like fast. And then when they didn't, I just went to bed. >> Has anyone called you from that group? Or any messages or anything about >> No, but he had got a few like new caller IDs. >> Okay. >> I have them blocked on everything cuz I from once I've had them all blocked I want nothing to do with any of them. >> So, I'm going to just use my phone here and I'm going to get some pictures of you. Do you have a t-shirt on under that or just your sweatshirt? That's it? >> Sweatshirt. >> Okay. Let me see your hands. Let me see the tops of them, please. And you don't have any injuries on your body, right? >> No, I don't. >> Can you want to pull your hair back for me? Same on the other side. Maybe you can just pull your hood down just a little bit. And if you Can you feel on your head to see like there any abrasions or anything like that? If you can pull your hair forward. And I'll look back here. >> I feel a little bruise right here. It's not too bad. >> Can you maybe pull your hair back a little bit where I can see kind of If you want to move it along with your fingers I can see your scalp better. What now? >> Yeah, it's not too bad. >> A little bit sore but no >> Yeah, it's a little sore. It's just like I have a little sore here like my thumb. >> It's not You got that cord right there, too. But you don't feel any blood or big chunks knots or anything like that. It's just a little bit sore in one area on your head. What about your legs? Any >> My knees were hurting a little bit cuz she dragged me on the ground while I was struggling. I don't think there's any marks. >> Can you describe the knife at all? Like what kind of knife is it? >> Um >> So it's what color? >> It was black and red. It has like a scorpion on it. It's >> But on the handle or on the blade? >> On the handle. >> On the handle. >> The blade is >> Do you want to try her side and get an abrasion there? Everything okay on the back of your legs? >> Um yeah, I think so. >> Okay. How How big was the handle? >> Um >> 2 in 3 in 2 in >> 2 in 2 to 3 >> 2 to 3 in 2 in >> Yeah, so it kind of fits like right >> Right in your hand. And then it just Does it like can you flick it with your thumb to open up or is it like a button? >> Yeah, it's a like a flick it. And then it's a pretty straight and then at the bottom it has like >> Serrated at the at the bottom. Um Just kind of red and black. It's got a scorpion on it. And then it's got just a kind of quarter at the bottom serrated. >> Okay. >> And you don't know where what happened to the knife inside the house once >> Uh, no. >> You handed you handed it to somebody. >> Yeah, I I think I handed it to Ead. Yeah, I think I handed it to him. >> Okay. >> And then I got in the shower and just my mind was all over the place. >> You mentioned earlier that you use your knife at work a lot, right? What What kind of work do you do? >> Um, so basically usually I'm like secretary, but I'll go in the back. We sell sealant, so we like open up boxes and we have to open up skids. So we're just pretty much cutting them. Boxes, tape, and Saran wraps, stuff like that. >> So on a daily basis you would use your knife at work. So you're pretty comfortable with it. So with all the people that we interviewed and the video that we recovered um, we're charging you with murder. >> You know, sort of self-defense or anything? >> Essentially it'll be up to the prosecutor's office. We'll present the case to them. And then if they decided that they want us to present to the grand jury, we'll present to the grand jury. If they you get indicted for it, then it'll go to trial or go to court and then you'll be able to present a self-defense claim at that point. Does that make sense? Do you have any questions for me at this time? Do you want me to call your mom right now or do you want to call her? You'll get a call when you get to the county the county jail. >> I'm not going home? >> No, you're going to jail. Cuz we're charging you with the murder. You'll go to county jail. Uh tomorrow you'll go to court for your first arraignment. They'll set your bond. And then at that point we have 10 days to present the case to the grand jury for indictment. Um if we don't do that, you have to be released. Um if you don't post bond, uh if you if we do present to the grand jury and they what's called a no bill, if they decline charges, then the case is dismissed at that point. Um that's kind of the process right now. So you'll go right now, some uh patrol officers will take you down to the county jail. You'll get slated down there under the one charge of murder. Tomorrow you'll go to court where they'll set your bond. >> Breanna Beresini was initially charged with murder and related counts in connection with the fatal stabbing of Haliyah Colebertson. On the eve of her scheduled murder trial in June 2024, prosecutors dropped the murder charges as part of a plea agreement, and she pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of involuntary manslaughter. On July 11th, 2024, Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Mark Serrott sentenced her to the maximum 3 years in prison available under the plea deal, with 3 days of jail time credit, noting that she would have the opportunity to apply for early release, which the court would consider at the appropriate time. Upon any release, she She also face a period of post-release supervision. She began serving the sentence immediately after the hearing. As of the most recent publicly reported information, no further updates confirming early release or completion of the term have been widely documented.
