She turned her patrol car around and pulled it over. The BMW stopped in the lot at Evergreen Tire and Auto Repair, 300 NE Stadium Way. McNannay approached the driver, 21-year-old Karly Basham. Basham said she was driving home. The officer smelled alcohol and noticed other signs of impairment. Basham first denied drinking, then admitted she had consumed alcohol at The Coug that night. McNannay asked Basham to complete sobriety tests. She started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test, followed by the Walk and Turn. Basham missed heel-to-toe steps and made a poor turn. She did not complete the One Leg Stand. The officer offered a breath test, but Basham refused. The alcohol odor and her test results led McNannay to arrest her for DUI. They then went to the Pullman Police Department. After speaking with a lawyer, Basham agreed to provide a breath sample. Her first two results were 0.145 and 0.152 BAC. The next two measured 0.139 and 0.146, all above twice the legal limit of 0.08. McNannay also noticed a marijuana odor. After Basham was booked, fingerprinted, and photographed, officers charged her with DUI under RCW 46.61.502. McNannay returned Basham's belongings and explained the charge. Basham was released and ordered to appear in Pullman court on June 20 at 3 p.m. If you enjoyed this BodyCamBust video.
