When he arrived, he saw a 2020 Audi Q5 that had hit a pole and ended up in a ditch. The airbags had deployed, and the only person in the car was still inside. Patrolman Emporellis spoke with the driver, an 18-year-old named Juliana. Soon after, Sergeant McGaughran and Patrolmen Carbonaro, Grosso, and Del Russo came to help at the scene. Juliana told Patrolman Emporellis that she was distracted by Instagram on her phone just before she crashed into a pole. While talking to her, he smelled alcohol and noticed signs that she might be impaired. Because of these observations, he asked Juliana to do some field sobriety tests. Patrolman Emporellis began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. He noticed that Juliana struggled to follow his finger smoothly. There was also a clear and steady nystagmus at maximum deviation, and he saw signs of nystagmus before reaching 45 degrees. He did not see any vertical nystagmus. Next, they moved on to the Walk and Turn test. Juliana failed to walk heel-to-toe with each step and made an improper turn. The last test was the One Leg Stand. During this, Juliana lacked balance and put her foot down before the test was over. Juliana was arrested for driving while intoxicated after a car accident. Officers noticed a strong smell of alcohol and found open containers in her vehicle. She struggled to complete the field sobriety tests. Patrolman Emporellis accompanied her in the ambulance to Morristown Medical Center for further checks. At 1:14 AM the next day, Juliana agreed to a blood test, which took place around 1:48 AM. After receiving medical clearance, she was released to her mother, waiting for her court date at the Randolph Township Municipal Court. Juliana's blood test later revealed a BAC level of 0.063% and showed THC-COOH, a compound from marijuana. The blood sample was taken about two hours after the accident. Earlier that day, she told the officer she had drunk 2 or 3 alcoholic drinks. Officer Emporellis then issued several citations, including operating under the influence, underage drinking, reckless driving, careless driving, improper use of a handheld phone, and having an open container. On August 14, 2024, court records show that Juliana was found guilty of driving under the influence as a minor, using a handheld phone while driving, and having an open container. As a result, her driver's license was revoked for 90 days. She was also required to spend 12 hours at a resource center for intoxicated individuals and complete 20 days of community service. Additionally, she had to pay $913 in fines. Three other citations were dropped as part of a plea deal. Earlier, on January 5, 2024, Juliana received a speeding ticket in Branchburg, New Jersey. 2:46 I have so much going on in my life right now 2:51 she asks, Is my car damaged? 7:08 it lidderrully just haaappened. 8:54 what bothers me the most is 14:50 ROFL 17:06 She's 18 and already knows the phrase 'sobriety tests'. 18:30 good lord, they're all in shock 55:55 bruh.
