Incident Report On November 9, 2024, Arkansas State Police Trooper Nathan Litty and his team conducted a sobriety checkpoint in Baxter County when a silver 2003 Honda Pilot attempted to evade the stop, triggering a high-speed pursuit on State Highway 5. 🚨 How did it unfold? The driver, Nicholas Koskinen, attempted to flee, reaching speeds of over 70 MPH while swerving dangerously. Mid-pursuit, Koskinen was seen hanging out of the driver’s side window, erratically waving his arms. As troopers closed in, the suspect began throwing drugs out of the vehicle, attempting to dispose of evidence. Arkansas State Police executed multiple Tactical Vehicle Interventions (TVIs) before successfully stopping the vehicle. Upon arrest, a search of the vehicle revealed fentanyl, methamphetamine, marijuana, THC wax, and drug paraphernalia. This high-risk pursuit underscores the dangers officers face daily while working to remove impaired and dangerous drivers from the roads. Key Highlights ⚡ Reckless driving at over 70 MPH in an attempt to evade law enforcement ⚡ Suspect seen hanging out of the vehicle mid-pursuit ⚡ TVI executed successfully to stop the suspect’s vehicle ⚡ Discovery of fentanyl, marijuana, THC wax, and drug paraphernalia Charges Against the Suspect 🔴 Possession of Fentanyl with Intent to Deliver (Felony) 🔴 Possession of Methamphetamine (Felony) 🔴 Felony Fleeing 🔴 Driving While Intoxicated (DWI – 2nd Offense, Drugs) 🔴 Resisting Arrest What the Driver Should Have Done (Before & After the Pursuit) Before the Pursuit: ✅ Stop at the Checkpoint – Running only makes things worse. ✅ Avoid Drug Possession & Use – Illegal substances lead to serious charges. ✅ Think About Consequences – Fleeing always results in harsher penalties. After the Pursuit: ✅ Surrender Peacefully – Resisting arrest adds more charges. ✅ Seek Legal Representation – A lawyer is essential when facing felony charges. ✅ Learn from the Incident – Evading police rarely ends well for suspects. Potential Legal Consequences for the Suspect 🔹 Felony Possession with Intent to Deliver: Lengthy prison sentence, substantial fines, and permanent criminal record. 🔹 Felony Fleeing: Additional jail time, license suspension, and heavy penalties. 🔹 DWI (2nd Offense): License suspension, fines, and mandatory substance abuse programs.
