Patrolman John Mania headed to Hubbard Avenue. Dispatch said a woman was frantic. She said she hit a pole. At the scene, Mania saw a white 2020 Ford Explorer. It had crashed into a utility pole. The SUV's front end was badly damaged. Airbags had gone off inside. He spoke to Savannah, age 23. She admitted she was driving the Ford Explorer. Savanna told Patrolman Mania she had been with a friend. Her friend lived in Red Bank. The visit was earlier that evening. Patrolman Mania asked if she drank anything. Savanna first said she had a few hours ago. Later, she said she drank more alcohol later that night. Patrolman Allen came to the scene. He was there to write the accident report. Patrolman Mania thought Savanna seemed impaired. She was asked to do sobriety tests. Patrolman Mania started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. He saw Savannah's eyes jerked as she followed his pen. Her eyes twitched sharply at the far side. The twitching started before her gaze reached 45 degrees. He did not see any vertical eye twitching. Next, Savannah tried the Walk and Turn test. She did not walk heel-to-toe. Also, she turned the wrong way. Finally, she tried the One Leg Stand test. Savannah failed to lift her foot right. She put her foot down many times before time was up. The smell of alcohol hung heavy around Savannah after the crash. Patrolman Mania saw she couldn't pass the roadside tests. Because of this, he arrested her for driving under the influence. John’s Law meant her car had to be impounded for 12 hours. Patrolman Mania took Savannah to the Middletown Township police station. There, they would process her arrest. Savannah arrived at police HQ and heard her rights. She agreed to take a breath test. Lieutenant Dilworth used the Alcotest machine. The test showed a BAC of 0.139%. This was almost twice the legal limit. After processing, Savannah’s mom signed a form. Then, Savannah was released to her mother. As she left, Savannah called two officers names. Around the time she was being released, she referred to Patrolman Mania and Sergeant Jason Troshane as “f***ing losers.” She got summonses for several offenses. These included drunk driving and reckless driving. She also got tickets for careless driving and lane violations. 1:43 girrrlll noo shut up.
