sidewalk over here for now my God I just have the uh the one lane blocked off coming across the bridge from Red Bank it's just around 2 6 a.m. on September 15th 2024 patrolman John Mania with the Middletown Township Police Department responded to the scene of a motor vehicle crash on hubard Avenue dispatch advised him that a hysterical female had reported that she struck a pole upon arrival patrolman Mania noticed that a white 2020 Ford Explorer had struck a utility pole and sustained severe frontend damages there was air airbag deployment inside the vehicle he made contact with 23-year-old Savannah who was identified as the driver of the Ford Explorer uh do you have your uh your license and everything is it in the car I'm able to get it no I'll get it for you what was it in like a purse or something yeah it's in the passenger seat on the purse okay do you what what happened where were you coming from I was I don't I was coming from Red Bank my I was on the phone with my mom just upset about stuff and I don't even know what happened where uh where in Red Bank were you my cousin's house your cousin's okay it was my first time being there but I can get the address up okay no that's all right um and you're not hurt at all no I'm okay you sure yeah I'm just shaking up I I had a hard time getting out of the car but that was all okay guys I'm good you no I know I just I just want to tell you that uh I live me I live right there and me and her we were just go about to go to wa get a cheese Ste and we had our air po so bad it's your birthday we going for a walk that's not no can you just let me it's fine did you did you guys see the accident or no I did not see it that's fine then please I live right here I see I see accidents all the time yeah you guys are no no no no y uh I'm still talking to her yeah I don't not her license is in the car somewhere in like a purse but Savannah told patrolman Mania that she had been at her friend's place in Red Bank earlier that evening when he asked her if she had anything to drink she initially admitted to consuming alcohol a few hours prior but she would later admit to probably consuming alcohol even later in the evening patrolman Allen arrived on scene shortly afterwards to take the motor vehicle accident report uh what's your name my name yeah Savannah Savannah okay Savannah happened I have to take the crash report for this just tell me what happened yeah I I I honestly I think I was just like on the phone with my mom and I was talking to her about some stuff that was making me upset and I I don't even know I just drove into the pole I guess okay I've never had my airbags go off in my car or anything so it's my first time I went out the back door it was crazy does anything hurt on me yeah no okay you want an ambulance to check you out just cuz the airbags or no I'm okay all right everything's in the car all like the insurance your driver's license oh yeah yeah it's all in the passenger seat it's in the glove compartment in a little book booklet okay you don't mind if I get it no not at all when uh when you were at your cousin's house did you have anything to drink tonight I had a drink like a couple hours ago but that was it okay what what kind of drink I had a Cosmopolitan about 8:00 ping the road or blocking the roadway a c down the street from me H yeah probably it's all probably just make sure that she sounds fine I don't know where first got here I mean not that she doesn't sound fine but she just like was confused how she had the pole like I mean it just SS like she was distracted if you want if you want to all right so man just uh just based on the accident like that you said you had the one drink I just want to check to make sure your eyes are good real quick um we're just going to stand on the sidewalk in a second once you get off the phone yeah and then I'm just going to uh check that do an eye check okay yeah yeah okay yeah that's fine okay yeah you're on the phone with I got I got to go okay well love you by all right so uh all right so uh what I need you to do is stand with your feet together based on patrolman mania's suspicion of impairment Savannah was asked to perform field sobriety exercises the first exercise was the horizontal gaze nmas hgm test and patrolman Mania observed a lack of smooth Pursuit distinct and sustained nmas at maximum deviation and the onset of nagus prior to 45 degrees no vertical gaze nagus was observed the second exercise was the walk and turn test during the walk and turn test Savannah failed to touch Heel To Toe on each step and turned in properly the final exercise was the one leg stand test and Savannah failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and put her foot down multiple times before the test was complete y uh and your hands at your side just keep in your pockets for now do you have any uh problems with your eyes do you wear glass or contacts no I got lasic like a year ago so I have some like light sensitivity that shouldn't that shouldn't affect it um so what this test is you're just going to can you see the tip of the pen all right so going to watch the tip of the pen with your eyes and your eyes only right just keep your head still and just follow with your eyes understand y okay I'm going to move it back and forth okay almost done all right now just follow it straight up okay all right all right so uh you said you only had the one drink yeah are you being completely honest with me yep okay cuz usually when you have one drink your eyes don't like so what I look for in that test is like your eyes FL like fluttering and it's like an involuntary like spasm like when you're uh when you had more than a drink than just one drink and uh you're saying 8:00 was the last drink you had yeah okay between 8:00 and now what I mean it's after like 2: in the morning what we doing just hanging out just hanging out okay all right I'm just going to have you uh do two more tests okay um we're going to go right over here here uh yeah right over here is fine you can stand right there and then just uh you can face me uh just yeah stand right like pretty much right in front of me y um do you have any issues with your legs like walking any injuries no no okay uh so for this test I'm going to have you we're going to pretend like there's a straight line right here okay uh on that line you're going to put your left foot on the line okay and then you're put your right foot in front of your left touching a heel the tow you can do that now like this yep yep and then uh your arms down at your sides and just stay just like that until I tell you to do anything else okay all right from that from yeah just try try your best to stay just in that position from that position you're going to take a nine Heel To Toe steps All Right Down the Line once you get to the ninth step you're going to do a series of small steps and then do nine steps back I'm going to show you how to do it but that's the uh the gist of it all right so it's going to look like this so all right just like this you're going to do one two three when you get to the I'm only going to do three to demonstrate it but you have to do nine when you get to the ninth step you're going to leave whatever foot is in the front there and then you're going to do a series of small steps like this okay all right and then you're going to do one two 3 all the way to nine all right so nine there nine back yeah counting out loud uh looking down your feet just make sure you keep your hands at your side and uh yeah hands at your sides okay you understand all what yes sir okay you can uh you can go ahead 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 this Ser yeah this Ser small steps to turn around s yep no you got it one 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 all right uh the next test uh you're going to stand with your feet together again your hands at your sides uh when I tell you to you're going to lift uh one foot either foot it could be your left or right uh approximately 6 Ines off the ground okay um you're going to have your toe pointed forward just like that with your hands at your sides you're going to look down at your foot and you're going to count 1,1 1,2 13 and keep going until I tell you to stop okay all right is that like 6 in sorry 6 in like like you know how big a soda can is off the ground like just about that not really sorry so if I was if I was to put a soda can on the ground like your foot would be about that high 6 in all right half a foot all right so uh either foot is that good uh yeah just about you already did that so I'm just going to do it again what I want you to do is just follow the tip of the pen in my finger see where it is yes okay what I want you to do is just follow it with your eyes and your eyes only don't move your head do you understand for oh sorry I'm I supposed to have my hands down it doesn't matter I'm just worried about your eyes and your head not moving that's it you're okay I mean he can just by stopping it when you're walking that's not going to that doesn't matter it's it's when you're driving yeah that matters so uh did you who did you call before your mom on like the way down here or something okay so uh you are going to have to come in with us okay okay uh your mom can pick us up pick you up from there uh we we have to fill out some paperwork and stuff and then uh all right so uh we I do have to hand up you all right really yeah it's like our procedure so if you just turn around can I let her know that that's happening first well she's coming directly here oh she's coming right here okay um just because where's your phone at it's right here in my pocket I also have a jewel in my pocket so that's all I have she she's coming from Flemington right so she's going to take a while to get here anyway no but I think she was on her way before I have her location yeah no I know but uh it it takes around like 40 minutes probably to get here from from there to here so so uh on the way there I'll we we'll call her and then she'll meet us at headquarters it's actually closer Okay police station so uh the police station here is probably about like 10 minutes up the road it's right off the parkway though my car is going to have to get towed either yeah even if uh that's fine can I put my cup or like take my purse out of my car we'll get all that stuff for you all right all right based on the motor vehicle crash the odor of alcohol on her person and her inability to adequately complete the field sobriety exercises patrolman Mania placed Savannah under arrest for driving Under the Influence her vehicle was impounded for a mandatory 12-hour hold under John's law she was transported by patrolman Mania to Middletown Township police headquarters for further processing so uh if you just turn around yeah that's fine but can I my purse we're going to bring your purse to everything yep everything will come with you but who's going to grab it we're going to get it yep we'll get it that's fine all right so just uh turn around and then just have your palms facing outward sorry it's a big yeah no I I got it's all right all right just contact your insurance company and figure out what they're going to do with the car from there okay yeah no problem bye yep so we're we're going to take her uh her purse out of the car and she wanted a there's like a pink water bottle but uh I'm going to ask her what else she wants out of there we can't take everything out but like I said I'll yeah I'll give you the the name for the toe company her Alco results indicated a BAC level of 0.39% comma which was nearly double the legal limit of 0.08% after they were finished processing her Savannah was eventually released to her mother after she signed the potential liability warning form on Savannah's behalf around the time she was being released she referred to patrol man Mania and Sergeant Jason train as FN losers she was issued the following summonses operating Under the Influence careless driving reckless driving and traffic on marked Lan's audio video recorded so don't worry about it okay okay you have a good okay thank you
