It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: October 26, 2024, at 1:56 AM. Patrolman Mellaci saw a Jeep going the wrong way on Maple Avenue. The Jeep drove strangely as he watched. He turned on his lights to stop the car. The driver pulled over on W Front Street. The driver was Cara. She said she had dinner with a coworker. Cara said she was taking him home to Lincroft. Then she planned to drive home. Patrolman Mellaci smelled alcohol on her breath as they spoke. Cara had her license but no valid registration or insurance. Her license was also not valid. The officer thought Cara was impaired. He asked her to do some tests. Sergeant Lovick gave her the first test. It was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. Sergeant Lovick saw all six signs of impairment. Cara then did the Walk and Turn test. She did not walk heel-to-toe. She counted wrong and turned the wrong way. The last test was the One Leg Stand. Cara could not raise her foot right. Patrolman Mellaci arrested Cara for driving under the influence. He based this on her bad driving, the smell of alcohol, and the failed tests. Her car was taken away for 12 hours because of John’s Law. She went to the Red Bank Police Department for processing. At the station, Cara read the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators. She agreed to take a breath test. The Alcotest showed her BAC was 0.099%. This was over the 0.08% limit.
