As he followed the car, it continued to weave dangerously, nearly hitting a bus. He turned on his emergency lights to pull the driver over. The driver stopped on White Horse Pike close to Park Avenue in Somerdale. The driver, 20-year-old Jianna, was spotted swerving between lanes by Patrolman Paris. When approached, Jianna admitted she didn’t have a valid driver’s license. Patrolman Paris noticed a smell of alcohol and other signs that she was impaired. She mentioned they were on their way to her boyfriend’s mother’s house and initially claimed she hadn’t drunk any alcohol before driving. However, she later confessed to taking shots of Bacardi earlier that evening. Officers suspected Jianna was impaired, so they asked her to step out of the vehicle when Patrolman Brick Wilce arrived. First, she had to take the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. Patrolman Wilce noticed she struggled with smooth eye movements, showed clear signs of nystagmus when her eyes were fully turned, and exhibited nystagmus before reaching 45 degrees. Next, Jianna attempted the Walk and Turn test. She did not touch heel-to-toe properly and made an incorrect turn. For the One Leg Stand test, she failed to raise her foot correctly and counted out of order. Lastly, she tried to recite the alphabet from "C" to "Y," but did not complete the task adequately. Patrolman Paris arrested Jianna for driving under the influence. Her reckless driving, the smell of alcohol, her confession about drinking before getting behind the wheel, and her struggle with field sobriety tests all played a part in the decision. The car she drove was taken and held for 12 hours due to John’s Law. Afterward, she was taken to the Magnolia Police Department for processing. At the Magnolia Police Department, Jianna was informed about the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators and agreed to take a breath test. Her Alcotest showed a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.12%, which is over the legal limit of 0.08%. This reading was also well above New Jersey’s limit of 0.01% for drivers under 21. Once the officers completed their paperwork, they released Jianna to a sober adult after she signed a Potential Liability Warning Form. She received several summonses: operating under the influence, underage alcohol consumption while driving, reckless driving, careless driving, not wearing a seatbelt, driving without a license, failing to have her vehicle inspected, not having an insurance card, and unsafe lane changes. On May 14, 2024, court records show that Jianna was convicted of driving under the influence and not having a driver insurance card. Because of this conviction, she was required to use an ignition interlock device for three months, complete 12 hours at a driver resource center, and pay $723 in fines. As part of her plea deal, the other eight citations against her were dropped. 7:00 Its rare that I see an officer let someone just walk outside of the car 38:05 I see here is another place that has the gang sign.
