On January 11, 2025, Las Cruces Police Officers responded to a hit and run motor vehicle accident. The victims of the hit and run described a young woman who fled on foot. A police sergeant used a drone with heat seeking technology to locate a person getting into a vehicle on a nearby street. Officer Martinez located the vehicle, which happened to a Lyft, and initiated a traffic stop. The passenger in the Lyft was a 19-year-old woman, who denied being involved in the accident. She continued lying to officers, even though she had a cut on her face and other evidence of being in an automobile accident. It turns out that she had a previous Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) conviction and her license had been revoked. She refused to perform field sobriety testing and refused a breath test at the police station. Her list of charges is discussed at the end of the video. Her case is still open and all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
