On September 30, 2024, Pullman Police Officer Carpenter responded to Walmart, where loss prevention agents were detaining a 21-year-old college student on suspicion of shoplifting. While waiting for police to arrive, the loss prevention associate had been able to determine that this was the woman's third time shoplifting in the past 5 weeks. The woman was arrested on three counts of theft (3rd degree) and was transported to the Pullman police station for booking. She was released about 2 hours later. Her case remains open. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
