#interrogationroom At 2:30 in the morning on February 28th 2000 a 911 call came in from a home in South Barrington Illinois. A man said he had woken up to the sound of his baby son crying and found his wife unresponsive in the bathtub. When the first officer arrived two minutes later he noticed something that stopped him in his tracks. The husband was standing at the door in his pajamas. They were completely dry. He had just told dispatchers he pulled his wife out of the tub. Officers found Cynthia Hrisco face down on the bathroom floor next to the bathtub. Nothing around the tub had been disturbed. Not a single item knocked over. The medical examiner found fresh scrapes on her knuckles her knee and her nose and a deep hemorrhage in her neck that nobody could explain. With no hard evidence the case was ruled undetermined and closed. But one detective could not let it go. For ten years he held onto that case. Then in 2010 he got permission to reopen it. Investigators went back to the house and used the same bathtub to recreate what the husband said happened that night. Every single time they tried his version of events the person pulling the body out got soaking wet. Every time. A water death expert then recreated what a deliberate drowning would look like and developed injuries in the exact same spots found on Cynthia's body. The manner of death was changed to homicide. A warrant was issued. And thirteen years after Cynthia Hrisco died in that bathtub her husband was finally arrested. He was convicted in 2019 and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
