On September 2, 2023, Whitman County Sheriff's Deputy Scharff noticed a vehicle driving with no headlights. He eventually caught up with the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The female driver was driving on a suspended license from a previous DUI conviction. She was also driving without having an Ignition Interlock Device installed on the vehicle. She then admitted that she had consumed alcohol. A deputy trained to administer field sobriety tests was called to the scene. He provided the driver with an opportunity to submit to a preliminary breath test (PBT). The results of the PBT were 0.189% BAC. The driver was arrested and transported to the Whitman County Jail. At the jail, she submitted to an evidentiary breath test (EBT). The results of the EBT were 0.118% BAC. She was charged with DUI (2nd offense), driving while license suspended (DWLS), and driving without an Ignition Interlock Device installed. All suspected are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
