It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: The clock read 2:08 AM on June 29, 2022. Patrolman Miguel Medina of the Deal Police Department patrolled Ocean Avenue. He noticed a 2018 Honda driving north. The car moved erratically. Medina followed. He turned on his lights to stop the car. The officer told dispatch about the stop. He approached the driver, who was Shadi Khorram. He walked up to Shadi and asked for her papers. He noticed signs that she was not herself. Finding her documents seemed hard for her. Shadi told Patrolman Medina she had left Long Branch. However, she drove north, back toward Long Branch. Medina thought she seemed impaired and called for help. Then, Shadi had to do field sobriety tests. Patrolman Medina began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. Next, he directed Shadi to do the Walk and Turn test. The One Leg Stand test followed. While Shadi struggled with these tests, another officer searched her car. The officer found illegal items inside. Shadi's poor driving, signs of impairment, and failed sobriety tests led to her arrest. She was charged with DWI. Shadi's arrest led to her car being held for 12 hours, per John’s Law. While Sergeant Brian Egan and Patrolman Medina searched the vehicle, another officer took Shadi to the Deal Police Department. The search of her car revealed items that led to a criminal charge under 2C:36-2A. In addition, Shadi received traffic tickets. These included operating under the influence, plus reckless and careless driving. She also was cited for not having her license and for lane violations. Shadi's story took a dark turn. Arrests for burglary piled up. Holmdel police arrested Shadi on June 6, 2023. Middletown followed suit on July 13, 2023. This wasn't Shadi's first brush with the law.
