Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: On August 28, 2023, at about 6:12 PM, Mount Ephraim Patrolman Christopher Badecki responded to 855 Station Avenue after a report of a hit-and-run crash involving a vehicle and a street sign. While Patrolman Badecki investigated the scene, Patrolman Stephen May found a white 2015 Toyota Prius matching the caller's description on Sartori Avenue. He tried to stop the car, but the driver continued away. Patrolman May eventually caught up with the Prius. The driver got out and tried to run on foot, but he quickly caught her near Bellmawr Self Storage at 1070 Kings Highway. The suspect was later identified as Rebecca Barnes. She resisted as Patrolman May put her in handcuffs. He also noticed that her shirt was covered with dried vomit and that she had urinated herself. Barnes kicked Patrolman May while he placed her inside the patrol car. The Prius had damage to its exterior, suggesting that Barnes had just been involved in a crash. A search of the vehicle after her arrest found several open containers. The car was impounded for a required 12-hour hold under John's Law, while Patrolman Robert Bernauer stayed at the scene for the tow truck. Officers did not attempt field sobriety tests. Instead, they took Barnes to the nearby Brooklawn Police Department for a breath test. Officers read her the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators, and she first agreed to provide breath samples. She was later charged with refusal after she would not cooperate when officers told her to blow into the machine. During her interactions with police, Barnes repeatedly offered sexual favors. She also claimed that she was married to Jesus Christ, had been with him for 10 years, and had 900 children with him. After officers recorded the refusal at the Brooklawn Police Department, Patrolman May took Barnes to the Mount Ephraim Police Department for additional processing. Officers tried to contact her emergency contacts, but none agreed to take responsibility for her. Because Barnes was behaving erratically, Patrolman May contacted Oaks Integrated Care for a crisis screening. A crisis screener evaluated Barnes and determined that she should be involuntarily committed to Jefferson Hospital in Cherry Hill. She was taken there and turned over to hospital staff for immediate treatment. Patrolman May issued Barnes the following citations: Operating under the influence (39:4-50) Consent to take samples of breath (39:4-50.2) Leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage (39:4-129B) Reckless driving (39:4-96) Failure to report an accident (39:4-130) Driving or parking an unregistered motor vehicle (39:3-4) Open container (39:4-51A.B) Barnes was also criminally charged with resisting arrest (2C:29-2A(1)).
