I was right behind him when it happened. All >> lucky to be alive. Every one of us. >> Around 7:26 p.m. on September 23rd, 2023, Deputy Chase Tremble with the Habersam County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on Goff 15 in Grandis Heights. He arrived on scene and noticed that a 2018 Toyota Camry was resting on the guardrail. He was also informed that the driver was likely speeding at around 120 m at the time of the crash. There was airbag deployment inside the vehicle and debris all over the road. Deputy Traml initially made contact with one of passengers before making contact with the driver. The driver was identified as 20-year-old Augusta Naggi. >> Every one of them >> you saw it happen too. >> I was right behind it. >> Did you see who? >> I didn't see it, but >> Okay. Jason, if y'all need something, call me. >> I appreciate you. >> You okay? >> I just need to be seen. My neck hurts a little bit. >> Have a seat right there for me. >> Who's driving? >> What happened? >> We hit this side lane and we went into the grass and it kind of like threw us this way. >> Okay. You got your driver's license? >> As he was speaking with Augusta, he detected the odor of alcohol and observed other indicators of impairment. Augusta admitted to consuming alcohol earlier that day and even told the deputy that she had been arrested for another DUI 2 years earlier based on his suspicion of impairment. He asked Augusta to perform field sobriety exercises. >> My keys, which on my my wallet is my my key wallet is my keys. >> Okay, hop over here for me. >> I can try to >> That's okay. Hop over the guard rail for me. >> How fast were you going? >> Give me your dad's number. It's over. >> Come right over here. Give me your dad's number. >> Can I just give him my number real quick? >> Yeah, I'll start getting first. >> It's in my It's in my center. Yeah, mine's in the car. >> All right, come right over here. >> Give me a second. >> No, come right over here. [Music] >> All right, tell me what happened. >> I was driving. >> Okay, go in front of that car right there. >> Yep. >> Lean right there. So, we were driving >> and I hit like the the one that makes the noise, that yellow line, and then I went to the grass. >> You hit it. I hit it too hard. >> Mhm. >> You're not hurt, are you? >> You didn't black out. >> I have blood on me, but I don't know where it's from. >> What's your name? >> Augusta. >> Augusta, what? >> Naggie. All >> right. How old are you, Augusta? >> 20. >> All right. How much have you had to drink? >> I only had two drinks. >> Okay. The reason why I asked is I smell it coming off of you, Augusta. Okay. >> My main concern is that you're okay, which you said that you are, but I'm I need to check and make sure that you're not impaired. All right. How long ago was those two drinks? >> Like an hour ago. >> Okay. Take a half step forward for me. >> Come right here, Augusta. >> I'm going to have you submit some voluntary evaluations to make sure that you're not impaired. Okay. All right, tell me something. How far did you make it in school? >> I'm in college right now. >> Okay. Is it a safe assumption to say that you know your English alphabet? >> I already have a DUI. I I got it 2 years ago and I'm about to get off in November. I know how this goes. >> Okay. >> I mean, you don't have to do anything. I'm asking you to submit the voluntary evaluation. >> I'll do it. >> Okay. >> So, do you know your alphabet? >> Okay. What I want you to do is I want you to recite your alphabet for me. Okay? But I want you to start with the letter D like doll >> and I want you to stop with the letter X like X-ray go from D to X. Don't want to start with any rhyme. Don't wor with any rhythm. Just nice and slow. You understand? >> You have any questions? All right. Whenever you're ready, do that for me. >> D Wait. A B C D Oh, [ __ ] See, y'all already going to take that as that. >> I'm not. I'm listening to you. D E F G H I J K L M N P Q R S X >> Do you wear glasses or contacts? >> Do you have any problems with your knees, your legs, or your back? Did you hit your head in the crash? >> Did you said you didn't black out though? >> Perfect. All right. What I want you to do is stand with your feet together. He toe to toe like I've got mine. Keep your hands down by your side. Can you do that? >> Hey, colar. Colar. >> Deputy Tremblel started with the horizontal gaze nistagmus HGN test. The second exercise was the walk and turn test. During the walk and turn test, Augusta did not touch heel to toe on each step and turned improperly. The third exercise was the one leg stand test and Augusta failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and did not count in the correct sequence. >> Can you have them cut their lights off? >> Augusta, can you do that for me? >> Now, what I'm going to do is I'm going to hold my finger up in front of your face and I'm going to move it side to side. How can I do that with it? I got tears in my eyes, bro. What? >> What's that? >> Okay, I'm going to hold my finger over in front of your face. I'm going to move it side to side. >> Sometimes it's going to be fast. >> I know. >> Sometimes it's going to be slow. >> Yep. I just want you to follow with your eyes, keeping your head still. Okay. All right. Put your feet together for me. Put your hands down by your side. I'm sorry. >> That's okay. Keep your hands down by your side for me. Okay. All right. Tip of my finger. Okay. Put it on the outside edge though. So I want your foot >> out here side. >> Yep. Then what I want you to do is take your right foot, put it in front of your left foot, touching heel to toe. >> Keep your hands down by your side. I don't want you to move until I tell you to. Okay? Now, when I tell you to, I want you to take nine heel to toe steps down that line. >> Nine. >> Mhm. When you get to nine, leave your lead foot planted, turn around, taking a series of steps, and take nine steps back. I'm going demonstrate it so you understand. When I do it, I'm going to take three. But when you're done, you're going to take nine. Okay? You get back in that position for me. Put your right foot back in front of your left. All right? So again, left foot on the line, right foot in front of your left foot touching heel to toe. You'll count each step like so. One, two, three. All the way until you get to nine. When you get to nine, leave your lead foot planted. Turn around. taking that series of steps and take nine steps back. One, >> nine steps forward. Nine steps back. >> Three. All the way until you get to nine. Couple things I want you to remember. Keep your eye focused on the tip of your toes. Count out loud. Keep your arms down by your side. And once you start walking, don't stop until you're done. Okay? If you have any questions. All right. Whenever you're ready, you can begin. [Music] [Applause] [Music] control. All right, turn back around for me. Turn right here. So again, with your feet together, heel to heel, toe to toe, and your hands down by your side. I'm going to have you elevate one of your feet for just a minute, okay? It doesn't matter to me which one. It can be your left foot or your right foot. With that foot elevated, I want you to count out loud in the following manner. 1,00 1,002 1,003 Continue count. So, I tell you to stop. Now, what I want you to remember, just keep your eye focused on the tip of your elevated foot. >> I have to look at my foot. >> Mhm. Count out loud. Keep your arms down by your side. Keep both legs straight. You understand? >> All right. Here's what it's going to look like. >> Your feet together, hands down by your side. You're going to elevate that foot out in front of you. Hold on just a second. We're going to count out loud. 1,00 1,002 10003 and continue counting in that manner. All right. Again, keep your eyes on your toe. Count out loud. Arms stand by your side. Both legs straight. You understand? You have any questions? >> All right. Whenever you're ready. Hold on. Hold on just a second. You don't have any questions, right? >> No, sir. >> All right. Whenever you're ready, you can begin. 2001 2023 204 20 112 2013 14 >> 16 2018 2019 2021. >> Now you can stop right there. >> So you had a couple drinks like you know you said about an hour ago. >> What'd you have to drink? >> Two monsters. >> Two Monsters like energy drinks. >> They make alcohol now. >> Yeah. >> Oh, so the the little beast or whatever. >> All right. >> Um where were you guys coming from?
