Don't get upset. We're going to go through some tests. My dad's going to kill me. Well, for what? We're going through some tests. I didn't say you're under arrest. I didn't say you're in trouble. You hit a guardrail. You're not injured, right? No. All right, so that's good. Nobody else is in the vehicle, just you, right? me. I was just trying to go home and I'm Okay. My tire just done. Okay. Um Things get get replaced, that's why we have insurance, okay? Um I'm glad you're not injured. Again, we're just going to do a couple tests, okay? So, try to relax. Um before we start the tests Sergeant Cartella started with the horizontal gaze nystagmus HGN test, and he observed the lack of smooth pursuit, distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and the onset of nystagmus prior to 45°. The second exercise was the walk and turn test. During the walk and turn test, Caitlyn failed to touch heel to toe on each step while turning improperly. The last exercise was the one leg stand test and Caitlyn failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and put her foot down before the test was complete. I'm just going to ask you again, you said you had two Coors Lights. Yes. Is that accurate? Yes. About an hour and a half ago? Yes. And that's it? Yes. Okay. Do me a favor. Put your feet together on this white line and all you're going to do is face me. Okay? I'm going to demonstrate and explain a few tests. Okay? Um Before we begin, do you have any ailments in your body as far as replacement knees or major surgeries or anything like that? Okay. Do you have any glass eyes or do you have contacts in? Yes. Okay. I I have very bad vision at night. I have bad astigmatism. Okay. Um all right. So again, we're going to do some tests. There's going to be three of them. Okay? The first test, okay? It's going to be with your eyes and your eyes only. Okay? Do not move your head side to side. Just move your eyes and you're going to follow the stimulus of this pen. Okay. All right? So the tip of this pen, do you see it? Yep. All right, the first one's just going to be for equal tracking, okay? Just follow the tip of my pen, okay? Okay, good. Just like that, okay? All right, again. Follow the tip of my pen. Do you understand the instructions? Yes. Okay. We're going to start. Follow the tip of my pen. Right here. Keep following it. Yep. Good. Okay. Do the same thing. Follow the tip of my pen. Over here? Yep, just like that. Over here? Just like that. Good. Hold it. Yep. Over here? Good. And do that one again. Okay. Good. Here? Good. Last portion, again, follow that tip of my pen. Good. Good. Okay, we're just going to go up, okay? Okay. All right, do me a favor. You don't have any weapons or anything like that's going to hurt me or poke me. All right, do me a favor, as best as you can, I know it's cold, keep your hands down outside of your pockets, down by your side, okay? Do me a favor, put your right foot in front of your left foot in a heel-to-toe fashion, okay? Just like this. I just want you to hold that position Yep. Right foot in front of your left Caitlin? Yeah. Step back for me. I just want you to do me a favor, put your right foot in front of your left foot and just hold that position, just like this. Keep your arms down by your side, okay? Just hold that position. I'm going to now demonstrate and explain the test, okay? What you're going to do is going to take nine heel-to-toe steps forward, turn using a series of small steps, and you're going to return nine heel-to-toe steps. Okay. You're going to count your steps out loud. And me a favor, don't put your hands in your pockets. Okay, you're going to count your steps out loud, okay? And the whole time you're going to be looking down at your feet, okay? The test will look like this. One, two, three. When you get the nine, you're going to leave that leg planted. You're going to turn using a series of small steps just like this, and you're going to return nine heel-to-toe steps back counting out loud. One, two, three. Again, I only want the three, you're going to go to nine. Okay. Okay, try to follow this white line for me, okay? You may begin. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, Okay, good. I didn't pass. You didn't pass? I'm going to do one more test, okay? I just need you to put your feet together just like this on your on the white line, perfect. The next test you're going to raise a leg of your choosing. It does not matter. Again, I'm going to explain it, and then you can demonstrate it, okay? But you're going to raise a leg of your choice. It does not matter which leg, left or right. You're going to raise it 6 in off the ground, okay? Parallel to the ground. You're going to be looking at your toe, and you're going to be counting out loud using 1,000's, okay? The test will look like this. 1 1,000, 2 1,000, 3 1,000, 4 1,000, and so on until I tell you to stop. Okay. Okay? Once you start the test, do not stop the test and continue the test. So, if you put your foot down at any portion, bring your foot back up and start back from where you uh you know, where you continue the test. Uh don't don't start at zero, okay? So, if you put your foot down it on three, pick up your foot and continue on 3 1,000. Do you understand the test? All right, do me a favor, keep your hands out of your pockets and and try that test for me, okay? 1 1,000, 2 1,000, 3 1,000, 4 1,000, 5 1,000, 6 1,000, 7 1,000, 8 1,000, 9 1,000, 10 1,000, 11 1,000. Do you want to continue the test? Yeah. I'm sorry, my anxiety is kicking in. Sorry. Take a moment. Breathe. I have really bad anxiety. I'm on medication for it. Okay. Take a minute. 1 1,000, 12 1,000, 13 1,000, 14 1,000, 15 1,000, 16 1,000, 17 1,000, 18 1,000, 19 1,000. All right, you can put your foot down. All right, listen. You're going to be arrested for driving while intoxicated, okay? Uh we have to go back to the station to take care of some paperwork, uh and then you're going to be released. All right, you're not going to go to jail, but we do have to fill out some paperwork. All right, so do me a favor, turn around, put your hands behind your back. Is there anything in the car that you're going to need? My wallet. Where is that? It's in the car. My purse is on the passenger seat. Okay. Uh Am I allowed to call my friends? I mean, if you want to call somebody at the station, you can call them. My aunt would kill me. Based on the motor vehicle crash, her admission to consuming alcohol, the open container inside the vehicle, and her inability to satisfactorily complete the field sobriety exercises, Sergeant Cartella placed Caitlyn under arrest for driving under the influence. After she was placed under arrest, her vehicle was impounded for a 12-hour hold according to John's Law. Her AlcoTest results indicated a back level of 0.12% which was still over the legal limit of 0.08%.
