Officer Caretsky had shown to perform the finger dexterity test, count backwards, and recite part of the alphabet. Shawn was not able to perform any of these exercises satisfactorily. >> Happy birthday. Do you have a driver's license with you? Yeah, I do. I do. >> How old are you, miss? >> 21. >> Okay. She was coming south on 91, got in the left turn signal and then decided to turn into westbound train north. Oh, and I just kept going and I tried to stop coming from bowling alley. If she's coming from the bowling alley, why would she be going south on 91? >> Yeah, I think she would or something. >> Oh boy, it is cold. I just have a shell. Short sleeve. I thought you short when I got here. Well, it wasn't that cold when I got here. It got a lot colder. And then we have to do radio. How long? >> He has no warrants. This is my birthday and I was just trying to get us home cuz she was really sick. Okay. >> And I know that's y'all are do you're y'all are doing your job. So >> So right in that spirit, we have to do this part right now. Right. >> We we'll worry about your friend. We'll worry about the car in a little bit. Okay. Stay come this way a little bit in the middle of a slope. That's fine. All right. So what I want you to do is stand with your feet together like this. Keep your arms flat down at your side. Okay? Do you see the tip of my finger here? >> I do. >> Okay. When I tell you to, you're going to follow the tip of my finger with your eyes and with your eyes only. And you're not going to move your head. Do you understand that? Okay. >> Okay. Before we do that, do you wear contacts? >> I don't. >> Okay. Do you use glasses for anything? >> I don't, but I should. >> You should. Okay. All right. Can you see up close? >> I can a little bit. Yeah. Yeah. >> I can. >> All right. So, I'm not going to shine this in your eyes. It's going to be right over it. I know it's cold. If you need to wrap your hands through your sleeves, that's okay. I know it's cold. Just try and keep them down to your side. Okay. >> Okay. >> We're almost through with this part. >> Okay. >> Just keep following my finger. >> Y You guys know that you guys know the southeast I didn't get you anywhere. Okay, last one. >> I can't see all the way. >> It's okay. Just It's all right. passenger. It's >> all right. Like I said, you just got to look up. It's okay. Okay. All right. Come over this way. >> Actually, come on. The sidewalk. >> Status is valid. No warrants. >> Oh, it's so cool. >> It's okay. All right. So, what we're going to do, just stay right in the middle like this. All right. So, this is going to be it's called a walking turn. I'm going to demonstrate and explain the instructions for you. But first, I'm going to tell you how to get in starting position. So, imagine in front of you there's a straight line. So, what I want you to do is put your left foot on that line. Put your right foot in front of your left foot touching your heel to your toe just like this. And keep your arms flat down at your side. And I want you to stay just like that. And don't move until I tell you to begin. You understand that? >> Okay. Can I put my coat on or you just want me to say like >> Yeah. No. Is your coat in the car? >> If it it is. >> Hold on. Come over here. Come over here. We can grab it. >> I'm sorry. >> No, it's okay. We can grab it. >> It's in the back seat. >> It's in the back seat. Yeah. >> Okay. Here you go. >> Oh, look. So again, >> imagine in front of you there's a straight line. On that straight line, I want you to put your left foot on the line. Put your right foot in front of your left foot just like this, touching heel to toe. And keep your arms flat down at your side, just like this. >> Okay, good. Now, stay just like that. Don't start moving and stay in that position until I tell you to begin. You understand that? All right. So, when I tell you to begin, you're going to take a series of nine heel to toe steps down that line. As you're taking each step, you're going to look down at your foot, and you're going to count each step out loud while keeping your hands flat down at your side. It's going to look like this. 1 2 3 and so on until you reach your ninth step. Once you reach that ninth step, you're going to keep your lead or front foot flat on the line. And you're going to take a series of small steps turning to your left. And then you're going to go back down the line and another nine heel totoe steps just like this. 1 2 3 and so on until you reach that ninth step. Okay? >> All right. So again, while you're taking each step, remember to touch heel to toe. Look down at your feet the whole time. Count each step out loud. >> Keep your arms and your hands five times the entire time. Do you understand that? >> Yeah, I do. >> All right, go ahead and get back into the starting position. >> All right, you can be good. >> One, two, 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 One. 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 I'm so cold. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. We're almost done. >> Oh [ __ ] I'm so Okay. I'm so nervous and I'm sorry. You want to keep going? >> Yeah. >> Go ahead. >> All right. All right. One last one. Okay. >> It's all right. So, stay just where you are. >> Okay. >> Come over a little bit. This way. What's that? >> Oh [ __ ] >> Down. Okay. >> All right. Face me. >> Yeah. >> All right. For right now, keep your feet. >> Okay. >> Starting just like this. Keep your arms and your hands down. All right. So, when I tell you to begin, you're going to raise uh one foot, either foot of your choosing. Um you're going to raise it approximately 6 in off the ground. You're going to keep your foot parallel to the ground. It's going to look like this. >> Okay. While that's raised, you're going to look down at your foot the whole time and you're going to count out loud. 1,00 1,002 1,00 3,004 1005 and so on until he tell you to stop. >> Okay? Do not put your foot down. >> Okay? Okay. >> Keep your arms and your hands flat down at your side the entire time. Remember to look down at your foot the whole time and count out loud the way that I told you. Do you understand that? >> I do. >> Okay. Ready? >> And go. One 100 1,00 2 100 3 100 4 100 5 100 6 100 7 100 8 100 9 100 11 100 >> 13 100 14 100 1500 Okay, you can stop. >> You can stop. >> Based on her erratic driving, her admission to consuming alcohol, and her inability to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises, Shona was placed under arrest for operating a vehicle impaired OVI.
