eastbound on Henderson Road and an individual in another vehicle alerted him to a motor vehicle crashed nearby Sergeant merkler turned right onto Black Horse Lane and observed a 2020 three Jeep Wrangler on the wrong side of the road that had apparently struck the guardrails on both sides of the road Sergeant Marler made contact with the driver later identified as 26-year-old jet Mera and asked her to explain what happened I can't move I'm totally fine I just can't move okay all right anyone else with you or no no it's just me all right why don't you to come out cuz it's the door is like you have your uh license registration Insurance on so this is kind of a new car so I don't have my registration on me I have it on my phone that's fine yeah if not I can either phone I get it off alcohol and notice other indicators of impairment within a few minutes officer Colleen Murphy arriv arrived on scene and Sergeant merkler briefed her on the investigation and asked her to administer field sobriety exercises okay and that's Progressive you said Progressive yes all right do you have uh do you have somebody that's going to come pick you up I to drive your car I can do you want that um clearly this is how we got into the crash tonight and I'm going to put you through a series of tests and then we're gonna decide whether or not believe that you could drive or not okay so we we'll out okay and what's your first name jet Mira jet Mera okay Officer Murphy approached jet meor in the driver's seat and asked her if she had consumed alcohol and she admitted to consuming alcohol alol of the hour prior based on her suspicion of impairment officer Murphy asked jet Mira to exit the vehicle and offered her an opportunity to perform field sobriety exercises she started with the walk and turn test and noticed that jet Mira did not touch Heel To Toe on each step and failed to walk in a straight line the next field sobriety exercise was the one leg stand test during the one leg stand test jet Mira failed to raise her foot in the the proper fashion while displaying a lack of balance B on me yes okay all right all right before I start do you have any medical conditions anything I should know about any um not that I'm aware of broken legs anything uh no okay so as far as you know everything's perfectly fine as far as any medication anything like that no ma'am okay consuming alcohol earlier that evening and her inability to perform the field sobriety exercises jet Mera was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated her vehicle was impounded for a mandatory 12-hour hold under John's law officer Murphy transported jet Mir to the South Brunswick Police Department for further processing all right do me a favor yep just put your hands on your back and he has a um valid driver's license yeah of course he take you home would you be able to call him back right now through my phone just so he knows cuz he's on his way here so I just want him to go understand this is something that we encounter quite a bit um a lot of people in this situation are hesitant to provide breast samples they don't want to incriminate themselves and that we totally understand okay um I'm sure on TV you've heard before when people say you have the right to remain silent you you have the right to have an attorney pres all that kind of stuff right um that is your Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination okay this is not that okay so I'm going to all this official kind of legal mumbo jumbo we're going to put that aside for now and I'm just going to talk to about the human being okay I'm going to I'm just going to give it to you straight up keep it 100 with a situation like this once you sign your driver's license okay you have a driver's license in New Jersey right once you sign your driver's license you consent to give breath samples if you are arrested for drunk driving okay you do not have a choice okay you can refuse to give those breath samples I'm not refusing but can I speak to DJ is all I'm asking no hey hey can you uh start the 20 minutes please I did yes than no I'm sorry um and and look this is not us trying to be difficult with you or give a hard time understand um but as it says here there's nobody that you can talk to there's nobody that can be present there's nobody that can give you advice in this situation okay the to my um Insurance yeah so if you call your insurance company tomorrow let them know you are in Crash um and you give them this case number they'll already have it set for you unless they need that's leaving the roadway obviously without your blinker not supposed to you're on a double yellow line okay okay and then reckless driving cuz you damag some property obviously driving the influence and you admitted to me that you use your cell phone so I had that ticket as well okay so all these tickets together um there's no price or anything on them um you have to make the court date so the court date's at the bottom for every single one of them so just refer to one are they all the same date all the same date yep so it's going to be the 22nd of this month time is going to be 2: p.m. if there's any issues the court number is in the top right hand corner and I could call in like rearrange with yeah so if God forbid if anything especially with work and stuff like that um they'll be if you were to get into the car and you were to drive again and you're under the influence you get arrested this thing happened all over again within that time period um he would be liable and he would also get arrested so um watch one question so I'm not able to drive until this cour day no so no no not till no oh my God this is kind of crazy no it's uh 24 hours so so 24 hours I'm not able to you heard me just because you were in the back seat um because you were arrested for driving on the influence um there is a specific law called John's law where anybody that is arrested for DWI your car automatically gets impounded is there any way to stop that any way to uh well no I mean it already happened but you have 12 hours go pick it up so you can pick it up at 10:30 almost in the morning without it getting impounded is what you're saying no it's already impounded so it was it should be under 10:45 so 10:45 tomorrow morning you can pick up the car um they'll give you more information when you go to the tow yard um in my head impounded is like bu like I can't get it back it's not a no so it's just a difference between so basically with helments There is almost like conditions that you can pick up the car so like if your car were to just be towed you could pick it up whenever you could bring it to whatever shop you need to impoundment right so it's like if people get their car impounded where it's like if they're suspended drivers like they must have a valid driver license to pick that car up okay so so my is my license okay everybody yeah your license is okay to pick it up so if you were suspended that that would be one of the conditions like she can't drive or pick up the car because you're not a you're a suspended driver so that would be under the condition so they would hold it until you provide that paperwork okay so it's just different from getting to it it's just verbage so but like for me me personally like you can pick up the car at 104 okay yep all right and the the number is going to be on there for you you can give them a call ahead of time just you don't make the trip just to double check with the time so you're not sitting around right because um I'll double check that one yeah cuz this piece of paper was attached to something else that I gave to you cuz that's your copy and this is my copy so um it should be on there with the T and everything have your own towing company that you wanted to use you could use them or whatever the case I could go to them and just be my yeah I'm sure you're just going have to pay some small fee of like uh yeah hours is over she was ARR I do or whoever the register going or so she can after the 12 hours out of effect okay so just bring your like say your driver's license you would have the registration with the vehicle already just also if you have an electronic version of uh your insurance just so you can bring that as well I have the paper everything's just at home the car is so just make sure you have all that when you come to headquarters bring this with you I to come to this headquarters they'll give you a toe tag release form just because she's going to need that for the uh to towing company to release it she has to pay onum uh when she gets there um sometimes Insurance takes care of it but I don't know all the time is it cash only they don't to be honest I'm not entirely sure sometimes it is cash only yeah so just give them a call in the morning uh they won't be able to release it until at least 10 10:45 a.m. so anything after 10:45 because she was arrested at I believe 10:44 closed uh I'm not entirely sure they're definitely closed right now right but um they'll be closed before 5 I would give them a call in the morning and just ask them what time and then the longer says that I'm short be Court from 9: on so you going have to call them L break and we did make it a point to her um we asked her if she was injured or anything like like that we've been recording the whole entire time just something I do want to make you aware of is the car drivable uh I didn't see it but yeah she hit at the South Brunswick Police Department jet Mira who has read the standard statement for motor vehicle operators and she eventually agreed to submit breath samples for testing jet mir's AO test results indicated a back of 0.14% which was more than the legal limit of 0.08% she was eventually released to a sober adult pending her court appearance he signed the potential Sher warning form on jet mir's behalf officer Murphy issued her the following summonses operating Under the Influence reckless driving careless driving traffic on Mark lanes and use of handheld wireless telephones two guard rails so on one side and then mostely it tow out it was towed out from like they weren't able to just they had to actually cable it to the back of the towing truck air back deployer no I believe I don't believe so I was in there I don't believe any airag no no airbag all right um
