Shirley was working in a computer store in 1985. On August 3rd, she was supposed to open up the store at 10:00 a.m. So, she was in the classroom portion, it looks like, eating her breakfast and somebody had come into the store, it looks like. She probably got up to to meet them and greet them, and she got attacked near the counter. She was stabbed multiple times. It appears that ultimately she collapsed near that counter, and then the suspect appears to have dragged her to the back middle room to get her out of view of anybody passing by the storefront. It looks like the suspect probably cut himself during the commission of that stabbing. There was a pretty good blood trail throughout the store that was inconsistent with her blood. You could see where the person had gone and and locked the front door and switched the open sign to closed, and really nothing was taken, which was really unique. The cash register was untouched. Ultimately, the suspect stole her car and fled the area in her vehicle. >> So, it sounds to me though like the evidence, the blood evidence that was not hers, was what kind of drew the most attention back then. >> Yeah, no, I'm not even sure they recognized the blood evidence as being suspect blood back in 1985, to be honest. There's really They swabbed it, they collected it, but not a whole lot was done with it until 2007, I believe is when that blood was submitted, and it had degraded over time, and so we got a partial DNA profile. But, that's the benefit again of the new kind of the new DNAs, I like to refer to it, the snip profile. The degradation isn't as impactful. DNA wasn't even a thought at that time in 1985 or even in 1987, but yet they were still swabbing blood, they were still collecting hairs, and they did really a fantastic job, the detectives did a really good job interviewing people and talking to people. And so, it's really a testament to them. I mean, it's if they don't do their job, then the chances of me picking it up 40 years later and and coming up with anything is really slim. >> So, what's the latest on this case? >> So, we're in the process of working a genetic genealogy on that case right now, too, to see whose blood that is at the scene. >> That's great.
