911. My child called me crying that his dad threw his tablet at him so I was coming to get him. And then he put his hands on me. I have it on video. Okay, can you get out of the home with him? I am trying to get my kids stuck. And then he shot my mom. You had to put your hand on her to get you away from her? She put her hands on me at first. How do you claim self-defense when every second of that night is on tape? October 19th, 2023. A mother of three drives to her old house because her boys called her. Scared. Within the hour she's gone. And everything that happened next was recorded. By her phone. By her 911 call. And by the camera in this room. The house on Woodward Street. In Clinton Township, Michigan. Inside it that night were a father. And two of his three children. The marriage was already over. She had filed for divorce two months earlier. And the hearing that would end it was days away. What happened in the next hour exists on three recordings. Her phone, her 911 call. And the camera in the room where he explained himself to the police. You are going to hear all three. It is a Thursday evening in October in a suburb north of Detroit. On one side of town a mother of three is staying with her sister. Because two months ago she filed for divorce and moved out with the kids. On the other side in the house they used to share her estranged husband and her husband and her husband and her husband and her husband. And the other family that would end it was days away. And the other family that would end it was days away. What happened in the next hour exists on three recordings. That was just the learn that one was done. He said that they were left with by some kind of bankeney. He said that he did not make me die to me. He said that he did not make me die to me. He said that he did not make me die to me. He said that he did not make me die to me. He said that he did not make me die to me. He said that he did not make me die to me. He said that he did not make me die to me. He said that he did not make me die to me. He said that he did not make me die to me. He said that he did not make me die to me. He said that he did not make me die to me. He said that he did not make me die to me. He said that he did not make me die to me. side in the house they used to share her estranged husband has the two boys for the evening at around nine that night her phone rings it is one of her sons he is upset he says his father's being mean to them he wants his mom jordan wheeler drives to the house she does not go in blind she starts recording on her phone before she reaches the door audio and video running the entire time think about what that means for a moment she believes she needed evidence just to pick up her own children inside the house he grabs her she does what you are supposed to do she calls 9-1-1 she stays calm she gives the address and while the dispatcher is still on the line she gets her boys out the door seven and eight years old running to a neighbor's house in the dark her last act on this earth is making sure her sons are not in that house five shots the dispatcher hears all of it and then she hears him officers reach the house within minutes there is nothing to be done stephen wheeler is taken into custody at the home he refused to leave and here is where this story becomes something else entirely because roughly six hours later at three in the morning he is sitting in an interrogation room his clothes have been taken as evidence and the story he tells the two detectives across that table is that all of this was self-defense if you want these stories told from the tapes the way they actually happened subscribe every case on this channel is built from the primary record um i was going through the process of a divorce i'm sorry to hear that um how long have you been married nine and a half years nine and a half years and uh tonight an incident occurred that led you to be here yes well what exactly occurred in my eyes i will kind of go into the back story of it jordan wheeler and jordan throughout the process of the divorce she lost all rights to the house that we have a set address because she was kind of using it to stop and check on me mm-hmm mm-hmm because borderline fucking stalking and yesterday she broke a court order that she signed and got pretty aggressive with me so substance of witness statements whatever so are you saying she wasn't allowed to come to your house yes without my express written consent okay and did she break that yes okay and when was that uh which time did she break that yes yesterday night and i mean should i have video footage of her breaking it and walking into my fucking house without texting me and calling me anything it's like you have security cameras on the house do you have security cameras in the house or just on the exterior on the exterior okay what kind of cameras do you have uh nest doorbell cameras uh nest doorbell camera and uh nest rear camera okay so you have one on the doorbell and on the back of the house uh one on the doorbell yep and then one facing the side of the property uh uh towards my neighbor's house across the street and then how do you access that do you have like a dvr or is it all on your phone my phone so it's all uh on the web yes like an app on your phone yes okay so you're saying that you have uh on times observed her come to your house when you weren't there yes by those cameras which yes uh after said court uh agreement how long ago was that the court agreement no how long would you come to your house without your permission she didn't within the past week okay and how long does your video save then would it be on your video i know i have it saved on my phone okay i uh allegedly my now saves for it saves like a month in the past okay and you access that through your phone um so you have her coming to your house without your permission in the past and i just heard you say that she came to your permission came to your house at nine o'clock last night without your permission yes is that right yes so she showed up without you knowing that she was gonna show up yes um what what was she doing there why did she come over so i honestly don't really know her intent with her arriving at the house um i had my children with me well two out of three of my children my boys and uh my boys were in their bedroom going to sleep and i was in my kitchen and yeah like you know i get my front door right here kitchen's right here his room's back here mm-hmm and yeah uh kind of went south from there what do you mean south like argument yeah did it get physical or towards me yes tell me what happened she approached me um called me a selfish piece of shit said i wasn't thinking about the kids because whenever she signed the right sway to the house uh she i guess wasn't thinking very well because she'd been she's been living at her sister's house oh and she was you know you know yourself speech should i hate you this that the other this first time i've ever heard the one of the fucking cause mm-hmm but yeah she well jordan kept on fucking berating me i shot her what led you to the point to go that far you say she was berating you by the front door no i mean did you have a gun on you at that point i had the gun on me um at the before everything happened it was on my kitchen table you know i never threatened her with it um i had the gun on you i had the gun on you reinforced her wanting to go away for me wanting her to go away and she wouldn't what was she upset about the fact that she signed away her own rights to the house and the fact that it made me selfish she she wanted me to after she signed away her rights to the house she realized that she fucked up and she wanted me to move out of the house and i was just like no i'm not not gonna do that like i've been paying this mortgage since 2016. why the am i gonna move away i don't have any place to go i don't have family here you know like okay if she wanted to move back in she could have i don't have any money to go away and i told her that i live in the basement this that and the other but it was well you move out or you're a horrible dad which i'm not a horrible dad i feel like a fucking horrible dad now but when did she move out of the house when when she starts staying with her sister august 7th that date came out real quick is there a reason why you remember that date so easily um i was at a school for the military and that's the date that i came home she hadn't filed for divorce at that point in time but i was talking to the cadre i said you know i can smell blood in the water i need to go but tonight you had it on the kitchen table yeah what got you to the point that you actually got the gun out and put it on the kitchen table no i was i was uh anticipating to you know just cleaning the frame of it okay you know it was nine o'clock and now the kids were supposed to be asleep okay is that where you normally clean it as a table yeah you're gone so you had to lay down on the kitchen table getting ready to clean it um jordan shows up yeah you guys get into an argument she gets an argument with me and even with the kids in the house with kids in the house uh typically i keep it unloaded uh the pistol itself notice what the detectives are doing here they are not challenging him not yet they let him talk every claim goes on the record at three in the morning the size of the argument where she stood what she said why the gun came out they need the whole story committed to tape before they show him what they have because they already know about the recordings he does not yeah yeah how many times did you not sure more than once what were your intentions when you were shooting her what were you trying to do what kind of question is that it's a question we're gonna ask if you're shooting someone you're intending to kill them yep that's something that the boy scouts teach you you're right were you a boy scout yeah yeah well last night he got out of control though right i reckon you could say that yeah um if i understand you right it sounds like she showed up on uninvited and she instigated some problems there is that what you're saying you had to put your hand on her to get you away from her she she put her hands on me at first how did she do that i'm just kind of normal fucking slappy type of i don't know where were you at i was i was in my kitchen in front of the sink okay no yeah what do you go by what do you want me to call you steven or do you go by i go by burles bryce bryce bryce this ain't gonna be easy man no okay i mean i see you're getting upset about it right and i know you feel bad about it the shitting the shooting easy that's a fucking understatement dude um i'm not a fucking robert or roger or whatever it could klinski it's a nice man i'm not i'm not a fucking murderer understood like this should like whenever you put me in my cell i sat there and tried to fucking sleep and then i had a fucking flashback i was like dude what the fuck what else i should speak on regarding what happened well how about this um you're saying that she violated some court order what do you mean by that so um i had the jordan wheeler was 33 years old three kids the family that knew her describes the kind of mother who came when her boys called every time without question in august of 2023 she filed for divorce and moved with the children to her sister's house in mount clemens she was two months into building a way out she put her hands on me at first how did she do that suck same thing i read you before before asking you questions my duty advise your rights you have the right to remain silent you understand that yes anything you say can will be used against you in court of law do you understand that you have the right to talk to a lawyer and have him or her pride here with you before or during questioning do you understand that if you cannot afford to hire a lawyer one will be appointed to represent you before any before any questioning if you wish do you understand that you may decide at any time to exercise these rights and not answer any questions or make any statements you understand that okay so you understand all these rights i think we need to just have this out and get at him so i was coming to get him and then he put his hands on me oh she she put her hands on me at first how did she do that i don't know what i mean but it got to the point that you felt the need to go grab the gun and shoot her in the head four times allegedly well yeah is it really allegedly i mean we're just talking about it right you just said you shot her right i mean so i just can't remember i said it's it's gonna suck yeah jordan's death do you know that she was on the phone with 911 when it happened so i'm trying to figure out where the self-defense is when she's on the phone talking to the 911 i'm just trying to try to hear you out here okay i'm trying to give you your chance to explain what happened here because i can tell you the 911 call sure as hell didn't sound like that she was fighting yeah she was trying to get the kids out of the house i want to hear you out no no i understand you tell me because i i listened to the call okay and she called 911 i don't know if she's being truthful but she said that um i need the police out here because we're having an argument it's getting physical okay i was getting physical because of her and maybe it was right maybe it was getting physical because of her but then while she's on the phone i don't hear her assaulting you at all well it's hard to hear something that is happening physically what was happening explain it just so that i know her getting into my box okay her walking up to me hurt can i ask you a question bruce yes so we've got you at five nine 194 pounds she's four foot eleven ninety four pounds you said she's in your box and in your space how did it escalate to where you were treated the gun and shot her four times you said you're not going to think it is and like i said it's going to suck but you did something and you up okay we gotta we're past that right you up there's no take backs right there had to have been a reason that led you to that point that you shot her five times there had to have been a reason to push you that far over the edge that you went all the way back to your bedroom to get the gun to come all the way back to the living room to shoot her something had been going on in your head that drove you to do all that and the way that she had been talking to me for days and weeks talking about i'm going to take the kids i'm going to move to ohio you know her trying to shooting at all so you don't remember how many times you fired the gun i mean pretty sure the magazine was empty by the time i was done that's correct so what makes you remember that what do you remember about that because i just kept on pulling the trigger and pulling the trigger nothing was happening okay aimed at her yeah was she was she on the ground at that point but i'm not going to try and i'm not going to try and convince you you know what i mean if you don't remember it that way you don't remember it that way but the shell casings that came out of your gun were all on that first cushion i don't i honestly don't remember being there okay do you remember having any issues at some point you must have grabbed her phone right yeah what did you do with her phone uh i don't know i remember i took it outside because i knew that she was on the phone with the police i don't know what happened after that okay what were you going to do with it i was just hanging it up okay did you turn it off is your part of the phone off i don't think so do you know her code for her phone what's the code for your phone do you have an iphone yeah is it a six or four digit passcode it's a six what's your six digit passcode i don't know if i'm going from getting that information out are you worried that there's something in there that's incriminating no i just don't i don't feel it plays any parts of the story there's nothing in your phone none of the uh calling her texting her none of that's has any part of this the numbers are not the point the point is what they do to his story a man twice her size in his own house with a gun already out on the kitchen table claiming he was the one in danger the detectives do not have to argue with him they have her phone they have the call they just have to play it so i'm probably going to prison for the rest of my life it's hard to say but it looks like it i mean here's the thing man you messed up and sometimes it takes somebody one second right to squeeze off fiber you want you want to know what i think i think you screwed up i think you fucked up i think you were so mad at her that you did something really stupid and you can't take it back and yeah maybe there was an argument and yeah maybe she was in your face but look where we're at now and look what happened and i just i just think at some point bryce you need to deal with it because if you don't if you're going to continue the story of that she was in your box and that's why you shot her it just doesn't make any sense while their father was telling detectives it was self-defense his seven-year-old son was in another room telling them what he saw 14 months later his older brother nine years old by then walked into a courtroom in mount clemens and testified at his father's murder trial asked why he and his little brother ran from the house that night he gave the only answer there was he said we were scared that if you were yelling at each other you were yelling at each other you tell me about just that part of yelling i called the police and then he shot my mom take backs on that you know what i'm saying there's no take backs but you know what else you know what else there is is manning up and explaining why you did it and what you did okay because here's the thing okay you know your son saw you do it are we really going to do that to him we're going to really have him coming and testify to say i saw dad go back to the bedroom get the gun come out and shoot mom no we're not are we we want at this point listen to me if i if i'm you at this point the only thing that i could think about is my kids that's that's just me right i i don't know if that's the kids are going to be the kids got to make it the kids have to have a good life right no reason we're going to have your fucking nine-year-old or eight-year-old come in and testify in court right it's not happening the trial lasted six days the jury heard the 911 call they heard his voice on it they saw her phone video and they found stephen bryce wheeler guilty of first degree premeditated murder in february of 2025 judge julie gaddy sentenced him two years for the firearm serve first then life without the possibility of parole he has filed an appeal it is pending the hearing that would have ended the marriage quietly on paper the way she asked was never held she was four foot eleven she got her sons out the door before the shots her name was jordan wheeler
