Description

REAL POLICE BODYCAM footage captures the revealing moment a DUI suspect's story about a knee injury begins to unravel when confronted with her own earlier statements. This bodycam video documents the careful questioning techniques officers use to identify inconsistencies during field sobriety evaluations.

In this police bodycam footage from December 28, 2024, a Santa Fe deputy questions Pamela Moreno about her alcohol consumption following a traffic stop for a stop sign violation at W Alameda Street and Entrada. The officer begins with basic questions: "Okay, what is one? One of what? One, uh, what they call, uh, one drink. What kind of drink was it?" Moreno responds, "Vodka," prompting the officer to inquire about quantity: "Okay, how big was that drink?"

When Moreno provides vague answers, the officer seeks clarification: "So, is it like, um, like a beer can, a Solo cup, bigger, smaller? Try to help me understand how big it was." Moreno eventually claims it was "just a regular-sized cup" and that she "just had one of those."

The timeline questioning reveals potential inconsistencies. When asked about timing, Moreno states: "Um, 10 o'clock," and says she finished the drink at "11 o'clock." When asked about the current time, she responds: "Um, I'm thinking it's, like, 3 o'clock. Okay. 2 o'clock," showing uncertainty about basic time awareness.

The interaction takes a significant turn when the officer asks: "Do you have anything to impede you from walking, turning or balancing on one leg?" Moreno claims: "So, I do have, um, this knee... I have traumatic injury." When pressed for details about the injury, her responses remain vague: "Um, I would say—Um, traumatic injury."

The critical moment occurs when the officer confronts an apparent contradiction: "Did you say you were dancing earlier a lot?" After some hesitation, Moreno attempts to explain: "So, uh, dancing and walking, 2 different things." The officer points out the inconsistency: "I would say dancing is probably harder than walking. Yeah. But you can dance?" Moreno then contradicts her earlier statement: "Not really."

This exchange highlights how field sobriety evaluations often involve more than physical tests—officers are trained to identify inconsistencies in statements that may indicate impairment affecting cognitive function and memory.

According to police reports, Moreno was ultimately arrested for aggravated DUI and booked into the Santa Fe Adult Detention Center following this investigation, which began as a routine traffic stop for a stop sign violation.

This police bodycam footage provides insight into the investigative techniques used during DUI stops, demonstrating how officers build probable cause through careful questioning and observation before administering standardized field sobriety tests.
