Description

REAL POLICE BODYCAM footage captures the aftermath of a chaotic mall incident where a man expresses fear and confusion following his arrest for unusual behavior. This bodycam video documents a suspect's emotional response after being taken into custody for reportedly screaming with his pants down and driving recklessly.

In this police bodycam footage from August 15, 2022, officers have already detained 25-year-old Jeffrey Hlavatovic in the Louis Joliet Mall parking lot near Cinemark theater following reports of disturbing behavior around 1 a.m. The footage begins with Hlavatovic making an emotional appeal to the officers.

"I apologize for wasting y'all time tonight and I, I'm happy to go to the station and do whatever y'all do," Hlavatovic says, his voice tinged with apparent regret and anxiety. This apology, captured on the bodycam, comes after what police reports describe as a "brief struggle" when officers removed him from his vehicle.

Hlavatovic continues with a revealing statement about his emotional state: "but I've never had this ever happen in my entire life and I'm very scared. I hope you understand." This expression of fear, recorded clearly on police bodycam, suggests this may be his first significant encounter with law enforcement, leading to heightened anxiety during the experience.

An officer responds with a simple acknowledgment: "Okay," before explaining the immediate consequences: "So what's gonna happen... Do you know?" When Hlavatovic indicates uncertainty, the officer clarifies his charges: "Well right now you're being arrested for resisting and then you're getting uh traffic tickets." This explanation, documented on bodycam, establishes the specific violations authorities are pursuing.

Hlavatovic's response reveals continued uncertainty: "don't... I'm being silent because I don't know what to say. I can't explain." This statement suggests potential confusion or inability to articulate his earlier behavior, which according to police reports included screaming with his pants down, driving in circles at high speed in the parking lot, making "erratic statements," and refusing to identify himself to officers.

The interaction concludes with his simple acquiescence: "Okay. I'm following you," indicating a shift toward compliance following the earlier resistance described in police reports.

According to Joliet Police spokesman Dwayne English, Hlavatovic was charged with obstructing/resisting a peace officer and reckless driving, with his vehicle towed from the scene before he was later released on an I-bond.

This police bodycam footage provides insight into the psychological aftermath of unusual public behavior and subsequent arrest, highlighting the emotional impact on individuals experiencing their first significant law enforcement encounter.
