Description

Arkansas State Police and Booneville PD dispatch receive information that a male had attempted to cash a fake check and that the suspect was sitting in a gas station opposite the bank in a maroon dodge challenger. Trooper S. McElroy (H-36) and BPD LT K. Smith respond to attempt to stop the suspect. Both units are in low profile/ undercover patrol vehicles. The suspect flees at the sight of Trooper McElroy's charger. The pursuit travelled east towards Magazine during heavy traffic, after exiting Magazine H-36 performed a successful PIT on the vehicle causing it to spin out and hit a tree. The vehicle became engulfed in flames immediately. At one point one of the suspects became unresponsive. H-36 informed his Lieutenant, M. Toon (H-2) who notifies CID to investigate the incident. The Investigation was led by Special Agent C. Waters and assisted by SA J. Arnold. The interviews are in the times below. The investigation was presented to the prosecuting attorney who deemed the PIT justified, no charges were filed on Trooper McElroy and he returned to work just days later. H-36 is now a Special Agent himself working incidents like these.
