Description

REAL POLICE BODYCAM footage captures a distressed man delivering a scattered medical monologue during a 1 a.m. mall parking lot encounter. This bodycam video documents the erratic behavior that preceded a "pants down" incident and reckless driving arrest outside a Joliet cinema.

In this police bodycam footage from August 15, 2022, officers confront 25-year-old Jeffrey Hlavatovic in the Louis Joliet Mall parking lot near Cinemark theater. The encounter begins with Hlavatovic launching into a disjointed monologue about his military service and medical knowledge: "But listen, so I went into the army, I got out medical discharge, DD214, stating that I had a distal, distal fucking femur fracture."

He continues with increasingly scattered medical terminology: "Now I have a distal radius. Proximal obviously means I... You know the whole fucking deal. The ulna's the big thing. That's the ulna. This is your radius." This unprompted anatomy lesson, captured on bodycam, demonstrates the erratic behavior that prompted the initial police response to reports of a man screaming with his pants down.

An officer attempts to de-escalate and establish better communication: "Hey, why don't you get out and talk to us, bro?" Instead of complying, Hlavatovic continues his agitated monologue: "I wanted to be a fucking doctor, but instead I'm tied up in the hospital for 2 weeks." The officer responds with concern about his current state: "Hey, you don't want to tie yourself up with anything right? Take your seatbelt off."

Hlavatovic then reveals sleep deprivation and work concerns: "I have to stay up all night because tomorrow, guess what, I have to work a 7:00 to 4:30 shift, just like y'all motherfuckers." This statement, recorded on police bodycam, suggests potential exhaustion contributing to his erratic behavior.

According to police reports, this incident escalated when Hlavatovic was observed driving recklessly in circles at high speed through the parking lot. After refusing to identify himself or exit his vehicle, officers physically removed him following a brief struggle. He was charged with obstructing/resisting a peace officer and reckless driving.

This police bodycam footage captures the concerning mental state of an individual whose behavior would soon escalate to reckless driving and resistance, highlighting the complex situations officers face when encountering individuals in apparent mental distress.
