Description

This real bodycam footage captures the central legal argument from the chaotic Dalton J. Ingram standoff in Lincoln, Illinois. The video shows Ingram's side arguing that a no-contact order is technically invalid due to a clerical error, while the victim contends that his presence alone is a clear and immediate violation.

The confrontation ignites as Ingram's side repeatedly claims the order is unenforceable due to a procedural failure: "It can't be served... It's not valid. They don't have a date of birth." They use their knowledge of the system to justify their position, stating, "That's why it's not in the computer system."

The opposing side, frustrated by this technicality, argues based on the reality of the situation unfolding in front of them. "Yes, sir, he can. He's here. He's violating-" they insist, dismissing the paperwork issue with a blunt, "That doesn't matter." This highlights the raw clash between a legal loophole and the spirit of the law.

The rapid-fire disagreement is captured on bodycam, with the claim "That doesn't matter" being instantly met with a defiant "Yeah, it does," showcasing the complete impasse between the two parties.

Frustrated but determined to seek justice, the victim's side resolves to correct the error and pursue the matter through proper channels: "Okay, we'll just get another one tomorrow. My attorney will have his name and his court date tomorrow. We'll be back tomorrow." This vow of further legal action underscores their commitment to seeing the order enforced.

This argument was recorded on February 5, 2025, and was a key factor leading to Dalton J. Ingram's arrest for criminal trespass and resisting arrest, as officers had to act on the immediate physical trespass complaint.

This video is a powerful illustration of how clerical errors can play out in real-world confrontations, forcing citizens and police to navigate situations where the technical validity of a court order is challenged.
