In the early hours of November 5, 2021, officers responded to a disturbance report on Steamboat Drive, where they encountered a young adult female, later identified as 20-year-old Gabriella Colon, inside a locked 2011 BMW. Her boyfriend informed responding officers that she had been consuming alcohol, but she defied instructions to exit the vehicle and threatened to drive away, escalating the situation and prompting officers to threaten forced entry to gain her compliance. Upon her eventual exit, and due to her observed uncooperative behavior combined with clear indicators of impairment, she was placed under arrest for driving under the influence; field sobriety tests were foregone given the safety concerns posed by her highly agitated state. At police headquarters, the individual continued to exhibit belligerent and uncooperative behavior, necessitating physical restraint as she repeatedly attempted to circumvent the breathalyzer test. During this tense processing, officers repeatedly questioned her about past suicide attempts, which she vehemently denied while complaining of pain from the restraints and demanding to see an unspecified "him." Following processing and fingerprinting, she was released to her boyfriend after he signed a potential liability waiver on her behalf, having been issued multiple summonses, including operating under the influence, reckless driving, refusal to submit to a chemical test, and obstructing the administration of law.
