On February 17, 2024, at approximately 10:50 a.m., Police Officers Jesse Castellano and Frank Losurdo responded to a parking lot on the 300 block of Jackson Street on reports of a hit and run, where the caller said he saw a man hit two parked cars and drive away. Police Officers Anthony Olivera, Nathaniel Arocho, and Roberto Cuevas located a car that fit the description of that vehicle, and had heavy damage, on the 200 block of Hudson Street. Officers recognized the driver as 24-year-old Raffaelle Spadavecchia of Hoboken. When Officer Olivera engaged his lights and sirens, Spadavecchia first ignored the orders to stop. He eventually stopped on the 50 block of Washington Street where he was ordered out of the car. He appeared to be under the influence and Police Officer Dylan Archilla arrived to conduct a field sobriety test, after which Spadavecchia was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. Spadavecchia was taken to Hoboken Police Headquarters where he was additionally charged with driving while intoxicated in a school zone, driving without a license, leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to observe the directions of a police officer. As per John’s law, Spadavecchia was released into the custody of a responsible party.
