On August 30, 2024, Ohio Highway Patrol Trooper Byron stopped a vehicle for speeding. The vehicle was being driven by a woman who had just turned 18 two weeks prior. Trooper Byron could smell burnt cannabis coming from inside of the vehicle. He had the woman exit the vehicle in order to perform standardized field sobriety tests. She was eventually placed under arrest for Operating a Vehicle Impaired (OVI). At the Highway Patrol Post, she agreed to provide a urine specimen. She was charged with (1) OVI; (2) Speeding; and (3) Possession of Marijuana. On October 8, 2024, she pleaded guilty to an amended charge of having Physical Control of a motor vehicle under the influence. All of the original charges were dismissed. She was ordered to pay a fine of $200 plus court costs. She was ordered to complete a 3-day Driver's Intervention Program. Her license was suspended for 180 days and she was placed on probation for 1 year.
