Investigators had obtained an arrest warrant and believed the individual posed a potential risk to public safety based on prior behavior. Police information indicated the suspect may have been staying at an apartment building located at 269 Sanders Road in the City of Buffalo. Due to jurisdictional boundaries, Cheektowaga Police coordinated with Buffalo Police prior to attempting contact. Authorities were also aware that an active order of protection was in place, prohibiting the suspect from being within close proximity of the address. Officers focused their efforts on Apartment 4, where the suspect was believed to be located. During the attempt to make contact, a man later identified as 60-year-old Hugh Davis Jr. exited the apartment and confronted officers. According to police, the situation escalated rapidly, and an officer discharged his firearm during the encounter. A shots-fired call was immediately broadcast, and officers retrieved medical equipment while additional emergency responders were requested. Officers on scene began emergency aid until Buffalo Fire and AMR arrived. Despite lifesaving efforts, Davis was pronounced deceased at the scene. No officers were physically injured during the incident. The encounter remains under review in accordance with standard procedures following officer-involved incidents.
