He soon spotted a car matching the description. It neared Route 176, turned west, and continued along the road. Finze watched as it nearly struck a curb, then pulled it over near Brown Street. The driver eventually stopped in a lot by McDonald's. She was identified as Amanda Daiello. She first told Finze she was going to McDonald's, then said she was heading home after dinner with friends at Cooper’s Hawk. Daiello also said she had gone wine tasting before dinner. During their conversation, Finze noticed signs of possible impairment and asked her to step out for field sobriety tests. Finze started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test and found all six signs of impairment. During the Walk and Turn test, Daiello failed to touch heel to toe, lost her balance as she turned, and took the wrong number of steps. On the One Leg Stand test, she put her raised foot down too soon and did not keep it lifted as instructed. Daiello refused a portable breath test. Finze arrested her for DUI, citing the smell of alcohol, signs of impairment, her admission that she had been drinking, and her performance on the tests. He handcuffed her and placed her in the patrol car. Officer Pet drove her to the Wauconda Police Department. At the station, an officer read Daiello the Warning to Motorist form. She refused to provide a breath sample. After processing, she was released with two tickets requiring her to appear in court: one for driving under the influence of alcohol and another for improper lane usage.
