A routine ride-along takes an unexpected turn when an officer discovers a woman in a running vehicle, leading to immediate suspicion of impairment. The incident began when a deputy, responding to a report of a suspicious individual, offered a ride to a man identified as Marcel Shazier, who stated he was heading to his fiancée's residence. Upon arriving at the property, the deputy observed Marcel's fiancée, Jessie Stevens, seated in a Chevy Tahoe with the keys in the ignition, consuming a bowl of cereal. This unusual circumstance, coupled with the context of a previous domestic dispute, immediately raised the officer's suspicion regarding her sobriety. Despite Jessie's denial of impairment, the deputy noted further signs, including a white powder residue in her nostrils and an unsteady gait, prompting a request for standardized field sobriety exercises. Her subsequent performance on these tests, where she exhibited significant difficulties with balance, coordination, and time estimation, reinforced the initial concerns. Consequently, Jessie was placed under arrest for physical control of a motor vehicle and later admitted to snorting Neurontin, though she declined chemical testing for alcohol. The encounter also involved her father's request for Marcel to leave the property permanently, highlighting additional layers to the domestic situation. --- Transparency through the lens of the law.
