Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: At about 10:48 p.m. on January 4, 2025, Verona Police Officer Shane Daly responded to a reported crash on Lakeside Avenue near Bloomfield Avenue. He arrived to find a 2023 Honda HR-V that had struck a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. Daly first spoke with the Honda’s driver, Sulah Lee, then asked the Hyundai’s driver what had happened. Sergeant Aaron Seubert and Officer Marcos Czupak arrived soon after to help. While speaking with Lee, the officers noticed signs of impairment. Lee said she had consumed three drinks earlier that evening. Suspecting she was impaired, they asked her to get out of the car and perform field sobriety tests. Seubert began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test, followed by the Walk and Turn. During the latter, Lee failed to touch heel to toe with each step, turned incorrectly, and did not return to her starting position. In the final exercise, the One Leg Stand, she did not raise her foot as instructed and put it down before the test ended. Lee was arrested for DWI based on the crash, her admission that she had been drinking, and her performance on the tests. Her vehicle was impounded for a 12-hour hold under John’s Law. The Hyundai’s driver was able to leave the scene. Czupak and Seubert took Lee to the Cedar Grove Police Department for processing. After officers read her the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators, she agreed to provide breath samples. The Alcotest showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.20%, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08%. Once processing was complete, Lee was released to a sober adult while awaiting her court appearance. The adult signed the Potential Liability Warning on her behalf. Daly issued Lee three traffic citations: operating under the influence (39:4-50), reckless driving (39:4-96), and careless driving (39:4-97). Court records show that Lee was found guilty of operating under the influence on June 5, 2025. She was ordered to pay $383 in fines. The other two citations were dismissed under a plea agreement.
