A driver's erratic maneuvers lead to a police stop, where initial explanations quickly unravel under suspicion of impairment. Around 6:27 PM on April 23, 2022, Patrolman Braswell observed a 2013 BMW driving erratically on Route 36, failing to maintain its lane, which prompted him to initiate a K-turn and follow the vehicle. After the BMW made a left turn onto Portland Road, the officer activated his emergency lights, and the driver eventually stopped on Hillside Avenue. The driver, a woman in her late 30s to early 40s with shoulder-length messy blonde hair, exhibited slurred speech and claimed to be avoiding potholes while also stating she was heading to see her son nearby. Officers on scene, including Patrolman O’Donnell and Patrolman Flores, noted damage on the passenger side of the front bumper, and subsequent field sobriety tests, specifically the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Walk and Turn, and One Leg Stand, revealed clear indicators of impairment, despite her successfully reciting the alphabet. Based on these observations and traffic infractions, the driver was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.
