It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: At approximately 10:49 PM on January 14, 2025, the Middletown Township Police responded to a car accident on Ocean Avenue near Linden Avenue. Patrolman Joshua Chambers arrived first and spoke with the driver of a 2013 Honda Accord that had hit a parked 2008 Pontiac G6. The driver was later identified as Alison Singer. Moments later, Patrolman Peter McGovern arrived and talked with Alison, while Chambers checked on the owner of the Pontiac. Alison admitted she had been drinking earlier that evening. Officers grew suspicious that she was impaired, so Patrolman Mania began field sobriety tests. Alison told him she came from Off the Hook in Highlands and had four glasses of wine before driving. The first test was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN). During the test, Mania saw no smooth, sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation. He also noticed nystagmus beginning before 45 degrees. He did not see vertical gaze nystagmus. Next was the Walk and Turn test. Alison failed to touch heel-to-toe with each step, didn’t count aloud as instructed, and didn’t turn properly to return to her starting spot. The last test was the One Leg Stand. She couldn’t lift her foot without losing balance. Based on the crash, her alcohol smell, and her poor performance on the tests, Patrolman Mania arrested Alison for driving while drunk. Her car was taken and held for 12 hours under John’s Law. Mania then took Alison to the police station for more processing. At the station, Mania read Alison the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators. She agreed to give breath samples. Sergeant Bumbico operated the breath machine. Her breath test showed a BAC of 0.276%, more than three times the legal limit of 0.08%. After processing, she was released into her husband's custody. He signed a form warning her about potential liability before she appeared in court.
