On Thursday, February 15, 2024, an officer with a Florida sheriff's office working an off-duty security detail was dispatched to a gate at a regional airport following reports of an unruly passenger on a flight from Michigan. Upon boarding the aircraft, the officer encountered a 52-year-old female passenger who was reportedly intoxicated, yelling, and acting aggressively toward flight staff. Once escorted to the tarmac, the suspect exhibited signs of heavy intoxication, including slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol, and admitted she was drunk while blaming the airline for over-serving her. When asked for identification to complete an FAA-required report, she refused to cooperate, instead demanding to smoke a cigarette on the tarmac. Despite her boyfriend’s attempts to convince her to comply, the woman continued to yell and cause a disturbance. After being given multiple opportunities to provide her name, she was placed under arrest. While being escorted through the terminal, she screamed and repeatedly attempted to pull away from the officer’s grip until she was secured in a patrol vehicle for transport to a local jail. The suspect was charged with Disorderly Intoxication and Resisting an Officer Without Violence.
