REAL POLICE BODYCAM footage captures the tense moments before a routine traffic stop escalates into a violent confrontation that injures two deputies. This bodycam video documents the anticipatory tension and mechanical issues that preceded what would become a serious altercation in rural Illinois. In this police bodycam footage, a subject expresses racial concerns about the approaching police contact: "They're gonna see a Black man and want to pull him out like he done done something wrong. Well— Yeah, but they gonna, they gonna hear about it. They're gonna hear about this. They're gonna feel it." This statement, captured on the bodycam, reveals the subject's mindset entering the encounter with 58-year-old Terry Gardner and driver Suzett Fassoth. The interaction includes what appears to be a request for assistance with vehicle trouble: "Hey, this might be the first time— Stand for. This might be the first time I called to give us a jump. Give you a jump? Yeah, 'cause y'all do— My alternator is down going, going down something, uh, the wiring or something 'cause— Okay. it, was running good and then the battery light came on." This mechanical issue, recorded on police bodycam, provides context for why the vehicle may have been stopped in rural Sheldon. As the situation develops, tension escalates when someone refuses police direction: "Hey, I'm not getting in the car. Come here. I'm going to pop the hood. Listen, you're— That's gonna mess finna, I'm pop the hood so I... You're not doing that right now... You're about to get detained. You're not doing that right now." The exchange concludes ominously with: "You know what? You might as well— You pulled pull your weapon and do what— Okay." According to police reports, this March 13, 2025 traffic stop in rural Sheldon, Illinois, began with a failure to signal but escalated when officers discovered suspected cocaine and drug paraphernalia under Gardner's seat. Gardner then actively resisted arrest, fought with deputies, and attempted to gain control of a deputy's taser. Both deputies sustained injuries during the altercation, and Gardner was ultimately charged with multiple felonies including aggravated battery to a peace officer and attempting to disarm a peace officer before being released under Illinois' SAFE-T Act. This police bodycam footage captures the critical pre-contact tension and provides important context for understanding how what began as a mechanical issue and traffic stop transformed into a violent confrontation that injured law enforcement officers.
